What your car says about you...

I think you’re confusing “mature” and older. A “mature” person would shrug off someone calling them dude as a non-issue, especially on the internet. Many people from younger generations refer to acquaintances as “dude” or “man” and one can argue that the regulars here are at worst acquaintances with each other for the most part.

That being said... what do my cars say about me? I like to think “sheer utility above all else” but maybe I’m way off the mark. Truck has a Flowmaster 40 on it if that changes anything lolView attachment 54691

:ROFLMAO:

I've told this story before, but in case you weren't around when I shared it:

Back when I had my M5, which was lemans blue, I was driving downtown and frustrated with traffic at the time, and some talkshow bit came on the radio talking about who the angriest driver on the road was, and they declared that it was a guy in his 30's driving a blue BMW and I just about died laughing. Immediately put me in a better mood, but there was definitely a glimmer of truth in that statement. ;)

Getting off topic, I do not want to offend any “dudes” by contributing to a “12 year old thread” that apparently annoyed them despite people enjoying it. I had a good laugh With the dude part though.

This is now getting funny as the topic is irrelevant yet the people irritated about resurrecting an old thread are AWOL.

Reminds me of the time I went out for dinner with my wife ( happened outside a family restaurant ) and kid a few years and some “dude” ( aka tough guy I guess to you ) was looking for trouble and said something to me and wasn’t expecting me to to tell him to beat it.

The “dude” ( younger, slightly bigger gut than me ...I am 220 ) came marching over within inches of my face and stated saying things in an aggressive manner I cannot repeat on family friendly BITOG. He punched me in the head once hard and went nuts ( people were screaming ).

Well, the last time that “dude” ever had physical contact with me. I had lots with him.

I cannot go into details but he won‘t be underestimating people and thinking he is a tough “dude” again.

After I was done with him, he had to deal with the police.

Thats not a threat , I am telling you about the last tough guy “dude” incident for a good laugh.

People are entitled to self defence.

I am not a dude, I am an alpha male lol.

I'm not sure what that, in any way, has to do with this thread or somebody casually calling somebody else "dude" (meant in good humour) on a message board 🤷‍♂️ If it's designed to be a not-so-subtle warning for people not to call you dude I question how you feel you'd enforce this?

This exchange does appears to have shown you have difficulty with the nuances of casual speech. The tough guy routine doesn't improve on that and just makes you sound unstable and with significant anger issues.

Here in the south we mainly use the word bro or homie when referring to a friend but I would not be offended being called a dude after all I am a dude. It just kinda sounds weird to me “hey dude” lol my niece calls me dude every time she walks into the door “hey uncle Blake what’s up dude”.

Nobody was offended or annoyed until you got your back up over being called dude, and it wasn't even clear you were upset about that until several posts later. My initial reply to you was to just point out the age of the thread, in case you had missed it. It happens regularly with the new board format, it "suggests" similar threads and a significant number of people don't look at the age of those threads when they reply to them, which I had assumed was what happened here.

I call my kids dude all the time, it's common parlance up here.

Yeah I think it’s fine myself. Just not common in my neck of the woods. Maybe your car refers to you as “dude” 😂

Lol, when introduced... MotorTrend magazine described my current daily beater as "A refined gentleman's sport truck. Gentle and mild mannered but unafraid to play dirty with the big boys". Paraphrasing of course. Not likely close to reality as I remember it.

It's a brick- thick Chevy. I'm probably thicker than it is for all intents and purposes. But it is understated, clean, and completely lacks much embellishment. It only has one gold bowtie on the nose. No other exterior advertisement or bold statements.

Stealth black, same color bumpers and body cladding. It's mysterious. If I *let* you tailgate or pass, simple, small, "SS" logos on forward doors and tailgate.

Extremely sure footed and powerful but restrained, a Eurocar eater if pushed. But still at its heart a Chevytruck. Easy and simple to repair with hand tools and a dry weekend. For all of its impractical abilities, still a practical vehicle. She's ⅓ Silverado XLT, ⅓ Corvette, ⅓ Cadillac. (Power, heated, seat/mirror memory and leather trim, XM radio from stock *everything*)

She eats a lot. She makes neighborhood waking runs in the dead of night for a 6 pack. My nieces and mother hate it when you open up the bores and let her breathe.

But she is me. All over. A Capricorn of domestic product and as rare as a unicorn. I've only met one other machine like her on the open road. The other fellow had his in cobalt blue. I rolled up beside him in the fast lane, looked over... we both simultaneously Bro Bonded with a nod and "aloha" sign to each other. I let off the gas and rolled back in behind him.

Respect. 🤟

Takes a bit of guts and schmardtz to keep one rolling and completely mechanically fit to roll around if you DIY.

Don’t know what my car says about me … just wish it could understand my Place of Interest is not likely to be in Seattle - when I’m near Houston 🤦🏼‍♂️

The same can be said of lots of older vehicles on the road; including mine. I've seen several in the junkyard for less than what I've repaired.
