What your car says about you...

For those who are not moderators who want to try and tell other members when they can post on old threads, unless the new post is not relevant, it’s still relevant.

Bullying should not be tolerated by anyone.

Mods regularly lock necroposts. There was no bullying here, simply a note that the thread was more than a decade old. I'm going to now report my own post and the mods will do with this thread what they see fit.

My cars say about me I hate new stuff and much rather prefer the old, more reliable technology and most importantly cars with real keys. Also they say that I don’t cater to this modern emissions stuff that is required on these new cars that bogs them down so bad and keeps them quiet too. Makes me so angry anytime I see something like that. Also most people who drive old(er) cars are car people usually and I am a car person I even have stickers that I’m going to put on mine that say “mechanic on board”. Anyone that drives a newer car most likely isn’t a car person so I don’t want that rap. As my boss says “never trust a mechanic who drives a new car”. We have already agreed we won’t buy anything new ever again because of how bad the cars have gotten we will fix and drive into the ground as long as they aren’t banned before then. There you go that’s what my cars say about me. 🙂.

Lurker - @OVERKILL is a good guy, and I'm positive there was no intention to sound bullying.

This discussion raises a couple of good points though -

1. The new format presents a list of related (or not) threads below the current thread. Although some of these are ancient, many are really interesting. I'm glad the board's software brings them to my attention.

2. Is there a board policy on resurrecting old threads vs. starting new ones on the same topic? I'll abide by whatever the mods' preference is.

What do my cars say about me?

2009 Mazda 5 microvan with 4-banger and 5-speed

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3

Thrifty and practical? Cheap? Debt-adverse? Not overly concerned about others' opinions? Some or all of the above? 🤔

Edit: Perhaps most importantly, not cool. 😁

There was an article in the auto section of our local paper back in the late '90s. I found it fascinating, and thought I'd saved it, but looked for it a few years ago and couldn't find it.

Anyway, the author was reporting on a large study in which they'd looked at people's lifestyle, and correlated that to what they drove.

They tried to control for age, income, marital status, number of children, education, etc.

There was a sort of continuum, with minivans at one end of the spectrum, and sportscars at the other. I think it went Minivans - Station Wagons - Sedans - Coupes - SUVs - Trucks - Sports Cars.

Minivan drivers were most likely to attend religious services regularly, make charitable donations, do volunteer work, and so on, and sports car drivers were least likely to do these things.

I don't know how valid the study was, and doubt it would hold water > 20 years later anyway, due to shifting vehicle preferences. For example, trucks and SUVs have become the new minivans and wagons, so they've moved over to a different part of the range. And of course there's a big difference between a brodozer rolling coal and a crew cab transporting a rural farm family.

Anyway, it was interesting at the time, and I wonder whether anyone's done a more recent study.

I am a nice guy too, but also nonsense.

I would never refer to another member as “dude ( or anyone , especially when I do not know them ). You have to be careful with words. Many mature people would find that disrespectful.

I actually checked this issue out tonight with Admin and I was told it’s legit to comment on old posts as long as its relevant , which my was.

I will say this; you will never see me ( it’s the moderators job, not mine ) tell some other member what they should be posting here.

I think you’re confusing “mature” and older. A “mature” person would shrug off someone calling them dude as a non-issue, especially on the internet. Many people from younger generations refer to acquaintances as “dude” or “man” and one can argue that the regulars here are at worst acquaintances with each other for the most part.

That being said... what do my cars say about me? I like to think “sheer utility above all else” but maybe I’m way off the mark. Truck has a Flowmaster 40 on it if that changes anything lol

I think that "dude" varies widely in intent by region. I don't hear it a lot here, but always presumed it was a just lighthearted form of address, male to another male.

Sounds like it might be pejorative in your area, but I'm sure it was not intended as such.

Correct, it was a casual address to kindly point out he or she was necroposting, very much "dude, do you realize you just revived a decade old thread? LOL" meant to be taken lightheartedly. Clearly, that's not how it was received, which I'm a bit puzzled by but anyways 🤷‍♂️

I think if being called "dude" rustles your jimmies, you're probably not a dude.

The dude abides.
This is now getting funny as the topic is irrelevant yet the people irritated about resurrecting an old thread are AWOL.

Reminds me of the time I went out for dinner with my wife ( happened outside a family restaurant ) and kid a few years and some “dude” ( aka tough guy I guess to you ) was looking for trouble and said something to me and wasn’t expecting me to to tell him to beat it.

The “dude” ( younger, slightly bigger gut than me ...I am 220 ) came marching over within inches of my face and stated saying things in an aggressive manner I cannot repeat on family friendly BITOG. He punched me in the head once hard and went nuts ( people were screaming ).

Well, the last time that “dude” ever had physical contact with me. I had lots with him.

I cannot go into details but he won‘t be underestimating people and thinking he is a tough “dude” again.

After I was done with him, he had to deal with the police.

Thats not a threat , I am telling you about the last tough guy “dude” incident for a good laugh.

People are entitled to self defence.

I am not a dude, I am an alpha male lol.
