A dead ringer for this one

Except mine was a 138 c.i. six, three speed auto and 4 wheel drums...

I blacked out the sills, the "wrinkles" in the headlight surrounds, and the grill, then colour coded the horizontal bar on the grill.

My parents had a Topolino when I was a baby - apparently it was better on the rough back roads in winter than my uncle's Model A.I've never seen a Topolino in this country,but spent a fair bit of time in one.They must have been pretty rare.

My first car was a 1954 Morris Minor - 2nd gear up the Harbour Bridge.

IIRC, my '73 was 19'3" long and barely fit in my garage.
I could talk about this car all day long.

* Twin full sized ashtrays up front and the rear had 2/3 small ones
* Glovebox held a 12pk of cans(no ice)
* 3 across in the front/4 across in the rear(people)
* Trunk slept 3 in comfort minus the spare tire(or use it as a pillow)
* Torsion bar front and leaf spring rear and the thing cruised in a straight line.
* 400cid/2bbl carb(thought it was a 4bbl til I changed the air filter) and the tranny(TorqFlite727) still had kickdown at 90mph
* Only 185 hp/340 ft.lb.tq...Thing Screwed! Wasted a few early 80's Mustang 5.0(pre EFI)...And I had passengers in the car!

1984 Pontiac Sunbird 1.8L overhead cam Brazilian motor/5spd. Bought in Jan '88 with 30K miles. Decent little car. Sold it in Aug '91 after buying an '86 Z28.

1970 Ford F-100
shortbed,stepside,light blue w/white roof
manual steering,brakes,no a/c
360 2v v-8.3 speed manual on the column w/electric overdrive.

You shifted normally, after you got in third gear and over 40 mph or so. lift your foot off the gas and the tranny would shift into o/d(if you were towing something drive normally).this allowed the 360 which in most trucks got 10-11 mpg to get 15-16 mpg.Wonder what it would have gotten with a 302/5.0?
I paid 1300 for it in 1978 or so(when i was 14).Drove it till an idiot ran a red light and totalled it in 81-82.

That experience left a bad taste in my mouth concerning the local cops,insurance companies and the court system.

'63 Falcon Futura, 260, 4 speed. Promptly took it over and picked up my "girlfriend", got as far away as a couple of blocks from her house and was t-boned in an intersection. Total driving time, less than an hour. For some reason, the girl's parents didn't want her to see me any more either...

64 Triumph Herald, A great first car in that it FORCED me to learn about Auto mechanics, but was also super easy to work on with the most basic of tools. Cheap to insure, cheap to run.
I also learned NEVER to brake in a corner!

76 was the first year for the 305.

56 Nash 3 spd man. w/od. Paid $65 in 1962, looked like a brand new car in and out. The most gorgeous paint and chrome I have seen. Huge reclining seats that made into a bed. High mpg on highway. Brakes faded out on a hill, nothing happened, but those cars had drum brakes too small for the weight. New cars are so so much better in many regards, IMHO.

1972 VW Beetle. Just had regular radial tires on it but couldn't get it stuck in snow. Well, one time. That's cause I backed into a snow bank and lifted the rear wheels off the ground.

First car that was my own? Well, that wouldn't have been the '75 4-door Maverick, as that legally was my then-wife's car.

The big '65 Mercury Park Lane was all mine ($500 cash in 1981). White, dark red leather interior, lots of chrome inside, and a giant steering wheel. I'd roll down the power rear window -- it slanted inward, and ran down behind the rear seat -- open the other windows, including the vents, and cruise along. Though it had good A/C. A powerful beast with the Thunderbird 390 motor, it got maybe 14 mpg on the highway on a good day, and it ran through a set of tires every year or so (bias-ply or belted tires were $100 a set then).
