First car that was my own? Well, that wouldn't have been the '75 4-door Maverick, as that legally was my then-wife's car.
The big '65 Mercury Park Lane was all mine ($500 cash in 1981). White, dark red leather interior, lots of chrome inside, and a giant steering wheel. I'd roll down the power rear window -- it slanted inward, and ran down behind the rear seat -- open the other windows, including the vents, and cruise along. Though it had good A/C. A powerful beast with the Thunderbird 390 motor, it got maybe 14 mpg on the highway on a good day, and it ran through a set of tires every year or so (bias-ply or belted tires were $100 a set then).
