What was the first car that was your own?

1968 Chevy Impala 2 door fastback coupe with a 6cyl and 2 speed Powerglide trans. I was told someone must have ordered it with the engine and trans, for it was kind of an odd underpowered combo. I remember going for rides in it when it only had first gear.

My Dad said here you go, but I don't remember what was said. I just remember the engine was worn out from revving around with the first gear on the trans. I learned a lot with that car and reading manuals. Found memories..................... I got my license about 1977 and I think I got the car about a year later.

Was the recent 97 cavalier that most of youknow. Paid 1k for it, and put at least 2k in repairs in one year till oil pump went and killed it.

My moms was a 1978 oldsmobile agency 98. That thing was a beast, got rid of it in 1999 when we moved up here last time.

My dads was a 66 oldsmobile delta 88

78 Toyota Longbed 2wd pickup with a built 20r, 5sp and 4.30 gears. The original owner worked for a hot rod shop and they used it as a test mule.

It put out 190hp to the rear wheels! I use4d to eat up stock Mustangs and Camaro's at the Saturday night street races.

1970 Pontiac Grand Prix. It was 17 years old when I got it. Bought it from the original owner, a 93 year old man who lived next door to my cousin. 23K miles on the clock. What a great car. I'll never forget waxing that enormously long hood or standing between the radiator and the engine block when changing the water pump.

350 4bbl? they were mostly 305`s back then.

I bought a 1974 Toyota Celica. The previous owner had fitted a 20R and 5-speed from a 1978 Toyota pickup but hadn't yet finished everything.

I think I spent more on putting the proper Celica shifter in, new battery, and finding radiator hoses that would fit than I did on the rest of the car. 4 new Kelly Superchargers with RWL and used 14" wheels definitely cost more than the rest of the car.

It was more fun than a hot-tub full of Stepford wives. Real simple and played the part of a "sporty car" well even if it was slower than Christmas.

In 1981 my parents bought 2 new VW diesels, a rabbit and a pickup. Both with 5-speed m/t and larger capacity fuel tanks. IIRC, they were a 1.6l and pretty much gutless, but could easily go 800 miles on a tank.

My first car was a 1965 Impala SS 409 w/2-speed Powerglide. Big heavy car wasn't the fastest, but sounded great and those valve covers and glass fuel filter looked cool!!

Yes you are correct.....the only caprice that had a 350 then was the 9C1.....because the 9C1 is a cop car

1974 Olds Cutlass Supreme with the 350 Rocket.

Silver with black interior. My grandfather crushed it when I moved to New Brunswick.

A neglected '75 Chevy Nova which is about the same platform as the '70-81 Camaro. I paid $400 for it. It had a 250 L6 3 speed auto though. I only had it about a year and my dad made me get rid of it since we were moving. it had a flat spot and i rebuilt the 1bbl carburetor. It actually ran good and was mechanically solid for being 15 years old and I think the A/C still worked.
