What vehicles are your local police department purchasing now?

AWD TT Police Interceptors (Explorers)

Decent sized rural(ish) county and they're always going back and forth across the county on calls.

Local law enforcement is purchasing Dodge Durangos (less expensive I assume). The NC Highway Patrol had a story out the other day where they are moving from the Dodge Chargers to Ford Mustangs. Not a lot of car options left.

Ours transitioned from Crown Vics to Explorers, but I'm not seeing any new generation Explorers.

I read on Wiki they have a 3.3l police package offering on the current generation.

Not sure how a twin turbo ecoboost would hold up for that duty.

Wonder what's next.
State Patrol in Colorado seem to love Dodge Durangos. One department had a number of The chevy ppv's that were law enforcement only and were made by Holden. Haven't seen one on years. I think the leo explorer vehicles had a recall recently.

Around here, plenty are going the 3.3l V6 Ford Explorer PIUVs. Most go with what is on state bid at the time and the Ford was on there for quite a while. Now Dodge seems to have taken the top spot with Durangos and Chargers. I think next year is last for the IC Charger available for LE sales though. Bigger agency locally runs the gamut with new vehicles; V6 Durangos, V8 Chargers, and Tahoes. New UC "cars" are mostly big pick-ups. HP has a couple of the twin turbo EcoBoost PIUVs and they are FAST.

Yes. Durangos are available. The Ford Law Enforcement SUV is in a production stall….

Arizona Troopers are transitioning from the Ford Explorer to the Tahoe, while local PDs are sticking with the Explorer for now. Back in the '70s when I wore a badge, I drove a '74 Dodge Coronet with the 440 Magnum, while the CHP ran the Dodge Monaco 440. Man, do I miss those days. 🥹

Local PD's still have a few Tauruses, and mostly Explorers. A few Tahoes for the small town PD's who want them/can afford them.

County Sheriff is using Explorers exclusively.

State Police is using whatever runs... literally (the State of Illinois is perpetually broke and deep in debt). Caprices (yes, you read that right), mostly Explorers, a few white F150 pickups (mainly in and around interstate work zones), a few Tahoes, and a few HD motorcycles. Whatever they can scrape up. State Conservation Police run F150's. Secretary of State Police run Tahoes.

No one uses Durangos or Chargers. State bid pushes Explorers, so that's what the vast majority are.

I can't imagine that it is cheap for the state to keep 10 year old Caprices on the road, but when you're this far in debt, you do what you have to do.

Seems there's always at least a pair of vehicles mostly selected. We've gone from:

Crown Vics and Caprices to
Crown Vics and Tahoes to
Explorers and Tahoes to
Chargers and Tahoes

Around here, Tahoes have been the majority for years. I have a hunch that Tahoes will continue to lead for a long time for one big reason, which I believe is ultimately why the CV struggled against it's competition in the later years: retained value. That's good for the agency's balance sheet. None of the other fleet oriented vehicles can hold a candle to the Tahoe in that respect.

No local/town police here, just Pennsylvania State Police. They used to use the Explorers and Interceptors, but I guess Stellantis gave them a better deal and have been transitioning to Chargers and Durango's. Wonder how poorly this will wind up...
I would take a Durango over an Explorer all, day, long. Same platform as Jeep Grand Cherokee, but lengthened. Customer of ours hit a transport at highway speeds, spun 360, and here's what's left of the JGC. Was home from hospital 3 hours later. Suffered a concussion. Bought another JGC as a replacement.

Our local PD and county are all Explorers.
There are very few Tahoes. Most around here that bought them went back to Ford on the next purchase.
State is buying Durangos.
I know of two departments close by that ordered Fords, had the order cancelled by Ford, that ended up with Durangos (at a higher cost than the Explorers.)

Village purchased four Durangos as that's all that is available. Two V6's go to the Chiefs and two V8's go into fleet. They'll also putting the 2015-2016 Interceptors back into fleet as PD is running out of vehicles. The 2020 Interceptors were train wrecks and one by one they are being removed.

Most PC seem to be Exploders and PV are Chargers though I have seen more than a few F150 unmarked the past few months.

Sadly, a similar accident just occurred in Candia, NH between on the highway. Tundra and a Grand Cherokee, where the Tundra side-swiped a Nissan Sentra then went across the median into oncoming traffic and hit the Jeep. Driver and passenger in the Jeep did not survive. The Toyota driver did not survive.

I am not posting pictures due to the tragic loss of life.
