What pet is better in your opinion: dog or cat?

I have had cats and dogs all my life really like both. They are different . Dogs are your best friend and cats are there.

Both are in different ways "The Best Pet"

My last couple of cats have been great cats. My lady has 2 dogs. One humps everything, and piddles from excitement and he is OFTEN excited, the other one intentionally uses the floor for a potty if you leave him alone in the house for more than about 10 minutes. I despise them both, but I love her so.....

My current cat is 95% outside kitty. He's a monster. 15.5lb at last vet visit and when he stretches out across my F150's hood, he takes up a good portion of the width. Why he doesn't spend more time inside? He likes attention. To the point where he will stand up on his back legs, rest a paw on the kitchen counter, and paw at you until you acknowledge him. At 15lb and close to 3 feet long stretched out, his little paws are tipped in quite large claws. And sometimes he wants attention when you are asleep. He nips at you. And OHHH MYYY are those teethies sharp.

He leaves a mouse or 2 in front of the door once in a while. I love that about him. He took down a pretty large rabbit last spring, I wasn't so impressed by that one, but he was quite happy with himself. I am pretty sure he actually ate it too, after I took it from him and flung it back into the woods.

I own two Bengal cats. They are sweethearts, and the home is free of mice and vermin.

I have friends with large dogs. Dogs that are too friendly and aggressive. At one house, I was a house guest and sleeping, when a 65 pound dog jumps into the bed and is on top of me. In the other case, the dog is a large poodle who runs up to you and tries to jump on you, almost knocking you over. IF you are sitting in the kitchen in a kitchen chair, the dog is in your face.

And they bark loudly and incessantly.

My cats are friendly with strangers too. But their meows and purrs don't hurt your ears, the headbutts are gentle, and if a cat jumps into your lap, it only weighs 12 pounds.

I had dogs growing up, we also had outdoor barn cats. My wife has a cat since 2010 and he’s an as**ole. We’re gone longer for work during the day so we can’t really have a dog or I would have one.

I have several of both. Cats are much less trouble...so I suppose it depends on what someone deems better. This is one of my cats, his name is Nugget. He, while being my best buddy, is a pest.

In this photo, he is mad at me and contemplating swatting me in the face. Moments later, he gave me a headbutt and almost knocked over my drink. A daily thing.

Good Afternoon BITOGERS. I personally think cats are better as pets. Don’t get me wrong Trevor is a great dog and “family pet” as sister in law says. He is an attention hound; especially when my sister in law and nephews are away. But I walk him 4 times day rain or snow or shine. No wonder he’s skinny 🤣
Dog if you're younger: Cat if you're older.

I have two German Shepherds, so definitely dogs. However, I had a super cool orange cat who was my buddy. Dogs are definitely more dependent, so it all depends on your personality.

Depends on what you want out of a pet as to which is better for you.

They can both be superb companions, I like them both myself, but they are vastly different creatures.

It really comes down to what your lifestyle is.
For years, for us, what really worked was cats because she was working FT, and I had 14 and 16 hour days.
Besides, Mrs. Tdbo is a cat person.
I'm really not, although, I have a weakness for Siamese cats.
The deal was nothing but female Siamese cats.
To me, all the personality traits of a dog, except in a lower maintenance package.
We have two: Fanny (a seal point) always greets us at the door when we come home. She has appointed herself as my cat.
Mimi (a lynx point) is very much Mrs. Tdbo's cat. She always has to be on her lap, or on her chair.
Generally, the same thing for me regarding Fanny. I have gotten her mostly trained to sit on the ottoman in front of me, instead of in my chair.
They are like Border Collies in that when we both are home, we both have to be in the same room (they try to herd us in the same room if we aren't.)
They both are very intelligent cats and are fun to have around. Although, I must admit that I still miss our first Siamese, Jasmine, who passed 11 years ago.
