What pet is better in your opinion: dog or cat?

Dog

Dogs are best friends and great companions, but a cat will not destroy your house.
One of our cats had anxiety issues and peed on two couches and a nice rug. Prozac seems to have fixed that. He doesn’t much care for cuddling or contact but seems happy now.

Cat pee is the worst and anything it gets on is pretty much destroyed.

Cats seem to be more popular with women. And because they're more independent than dogs, they are better for someone who is single, and not home a lot, but still wants a pet.

They can "go inside" in a litter box, and don't have to be walked. But if you have the time to invest in them, I think a dog is better. They like being around you more.

Cats also eat less than the larger dog breeds. And if they're declawed they won't scratch the furniture, or tear up upholstery. The downside is several breeds of male cats tend to "spray", and "mark their territory".

And nothing smells worse than cat pee that's soaked into a rug or carpet. It makes your whole house smell like an ammonia factory. And you can't train a cat to do much of anything. So both have their pluses and minuses. It mostly depends on the individual.

Depends on how much time you can devote to your pet. Dogs are great companions but require a lot of time and attention. If you don't have that much time, a cat is the way to go. Give them food, water and a place to dump and they are pretty independent.

I don’t have to hear cats all day so I’m going with cats. Dogs with their terrible owners bark non-stop around us. I know not really the dogs fault.

For us it was a dog because do to my wife's allergies we chose a dog with hair that doesnt shed.
Actually the humans in this house shed more than the dog *LOL* for the last 15 years.
( I think I forgot to mention that in a previous post?)

There's nothing more enjoyable than becoming an expert at removing cat-pee. I have it down to a science. <sacr>

Well you can train a cat to use the toilet. My main coons were better at retrieving than my golden retrievers. lol.

If you ever want a retriever in cat form, buy a Maine Coon.

If we have too many mice or squirrels trying to get into our house or in the barn, the cats are nice to have around. If we have any stray dogs, bigger varmints, bears, or people poking around where they shouldn't be, the dogs are nice to have!
I like them both to spend the majority of their time outside. Although our one cat is smart enough to move in. I would clone him if we could as he does all the good cat things, and none of the annoying cat things. The other two are lucky my wife likes them...

This is huge. Our schnoodle didn't shed but recently we took care of MIL's dogs for a week and our place was covered in dog hair
