What percentage of answers are simply repeated unproven info?

Part of my take on this topic is......
Even from points around the bullseye, clear descriptions of experiences can help paint a better picture.
How long engine air filters last is a good example. There's no data to speak of with them. Those spring-loaded, resistance valve things only work in the extremes.
Heck, people's anecdotal reports from the fire smoke filled West are illustrative.

My unasked-for 2¢ is.....
Without paying for analyses of used fluids, filters etc., what we (admittedly?) do a lot with our machinery is 'lean to the clean'. By "our" I mean people like us who want to do it right. All most of do is common maintenance. One man's "too early or often" is another man's "properly timed".

We chat about, ask for help and help with repairs. It makes for good reading. There the SIR (Substantiated Information Rate) is higher.

After factory recommended 7,500 mile OCIs my analyses came back "with some life left in it". I make several long trips per OCI. I'm confident my oil would be good even through a tougher run. Completely anecdotal but not worthless.

And to all the members who keep TBN numbers and cold pour temps in the front of their brains....God love you and thanks for posting.

Our Mazda3 is making a ticking noise I've never heard before. I don't know the car and it's not driven much. Does COVID have anything to do with it? Trying to select an oil. What should I use? I can't read a thermometer. Does that help?

Peace

Yeah yeah the more words in the post the less I am inclined to read it! Nothing says more about an oil than a good photo of an exposed Valvetrain !!
