Second Generation Mitsubishi Montero with the 3.0 24-valve V6 (avoid the 3.5L DOHC V6). Comes with an Aisin transmission, it is rock solid and straightforward to work on as well. There's also the Montero Sport, if you don't mind the part time 4WD.

4WD S10 Blazer. They are **** cheap. They won't leave you stranded, but stupid things will go wrong. I've replaced 2 wheel hubs in 6 years. ABS module went bad I bought a used one off ebay and been good ever since. Had to rebuild the rear calipers. However at the mileage you are planning to drive you cant buy anything more off road worthy at a cheaper price. I use mine mostly as a winter vehicle.
