What not to do with your Enzo...

I like this quote:

"For a million dollars, you get a very good safety system, and in this case it worked,"

They keep talking about the "drivers side" of the car. I thought the driver sat in the center of the car in an Enzo?!?

Winston, you're thinking of the McLaren F1... which has the driver seat in the middle. The Enzo has the regular driver/passenger seats side by side.

What an idiot. Money can't buy brains. He should have to reimburse the County for all the money spent "searching" for the driver in the hills.

That accident caused quite the backup on Highway 1 that morning.

I think the engine is salvagable:

Mid-engine Ferrari's in crashes seem to separate at the firewall - the engine goes one way and the passenger compartment another. This car separated just behind the firewall.

The sad thing is that some Ferrari's separate just ahead of the firewall, and the driver and passenger get dumped on the road at 100MPH. The pictures have been on the web. What a tragic mess, nobody deserves to die that way.

As for the Darwin award thing, look at it this way: Smokers die every day from smoking-related illnesses - heart disease, lung cancer and a host of others. Second-hand smoke kills another host of victims. Just because this guy had a million dollar car and it (nearly) happened over a few seconds instead of a couple of decades doesn't mean it's right to slag him for being reckless with his life and the lives of others.

Terry, I'm surprised he didn't go in head first, although with that high a PCA and that much HP....

I'm always reminded of a bit of a mantra we used to use...
"the amateur racer goes in nose first 'cause he's given up, the real racer goes in arse first 'cause he's still trying....."

Gentlemen,

Things just keep getting worse for Stefan Eriksson. His exotic supercar collection has shrunk again. Seems that the wife was driving a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Cops thought the Euro license plates looked suspicious and pulled her over. No license and the car wasn't registered in the U.S. Cops impound the pricey Benz. Further investigation revealed the car was stolen out of Britain.

read all about it in the L.A. Times:

If you aren't registered, they talk about it on jalopnik.com here:

scroll down to march 28 section.

Records show he imported 2 Ferraris and a Benz into the country. That other Ferrari is living on borrowed time.

Gentlemen,

Maybe the moderators need to create a separate forum for spectacular crashes, and their aftermath.

Like a nightmare, things just keep getting worse for Mr. Stefan Eriksson. Enzo-crash survivor, Gizmondo ex-exec got a visit from L.A.'s finest over the weekend — and they took him for a ride in their Crown Vics. He was arrested at his Bel Air home on suspicion of grand theft, though, according to reports, it’s unclear whether authorities believe he stole the Ferrari Enzo. They do believe he stole something, however, and slapped an immigration hold on him. They already impounded his Benz.

If this had happened around here, some lawman would have already drawled that old line, "Boy, you're in a heap of trouble."

Read all about it:

Input his name and view the booking details at http://app4.lasd.org/iic/ajis_search.cfm
No bail was granted.

They have a bunch of history on the investigation. They also have a link which has a computer animation of the crash. It seems that the car hit the pole sideways impacting just behind the passenger compartment. That is why the car split in two. They also claim that Ferrari will reassemble the car for about $200-300k!
