Family of 4.

AWD. Not the toy car variety.

Plenty of power, not a huge boat. But space for stuff.

Good quality and reliability.

Under 30G's if possible.

I really want to stay 100% open at this early point in the process. Please input, worthy ones.

Thanks.

Well....the subaru forester turbo fits the bill, except for size. I think that it will be hard to meet all your criteria for less than 30k.

Subaru would be on my list.

My wife's has a plan for a Volvo S80. Guess what will be in my garage.

dodge magnum? Hemi with AWD probably exceeds your price range (and I bet it's cramped under the hood) but if you can live with the 3.5...

Honda Pilot LX 4X4. My local dealer, Autowest Honda of Roseville, CA, has them advertised today for $25,773 + Taxes and Fees. Highlander is also worth a look.

Michael

BTW, here is an excerpt about the Pilot from Consumer Report's 2005 Buying Guide.

"The Pilot is a well-designed car-bsaed SUV that can hold eight passengers. Ride and handling are competent. The interior is flexible, with a third-row seat that folds flat inot hte cargo floor. Although quiet overall, road noise is produced. For 2005 the EX-L trim level gets stability control."

Consumer Reports tested this car and ranked it above the Highlander and just under the RX330 I think. It got a 4/5 in the reliability survey and is recommended. In their tests, it got 19MPG in a 50/50 city and highway style driving. Since their fuel economy estimates tend to be somewhat conservative to me, 19-21 MPG is definitely possible.

Also, I think, but not positive, that the EX-L was advertised a few weeks ago for $28K+ Taxes.

Hyundai Tucson SUV. Not a huge SUV, but not a short car either. Hyundai has really come up in quality and value lately. You might be very suprised, I know I was, and I now own 2 Hyundai's.

V-6 auto AWD, fully loaded with leather, sunroof, ABS, 4 wheel disk brakes, Traction control, 6 disk CD player, power windows, locks, and mirrors, keyless entry, cruise, tilt steering, 6 airbags, 5yr 60k bumper to bumper warrenty, 10yr/100k powertrain warrenty for less than $25k.

He did say a family of 4. Now in the A4 it's a small car. You would need at least an A6 unless your kids are really small otherwise there is no room in the back seat.
