What is the consensus on Mobil 1 filters?

Made my way to Walmart this morning to purchase some oil and found myself examining the Mobil 1 oil filters. They seemed very high quality, so I placed 2 in the cart lol. The $11 filter seemed like a better deal than the rusty champ labs Fram Endurance at $12. What does Bitog currently think of these?

I've used them many times and never had an issue. One is currently in my wife's BMW X3. I've never cut one of their spin on filters open and I have no idea what the filtering efficiency is. That's a lot of words to say I like them but have no hard data on them.

If they are the new Highline Warren supplied Mobil filters then they are better constructed than the ones made under Mann+Hummel. Do the center tubes have holes? If so, they are the new version. The efficiency is the same as the old version by M+H, which is 99% @ 30u (it's printed on the box).

Yeah, metal core with holes. Solid can too, feels heavy duty. Made in S. Korea

i seen photos plastered on here of the new Mobil filters they look identical to a Pentius XL internally. i would say a solid filter.

Not all Walmart in my area stock them. Stores that do, charge exorbitant prices as does AAP. Otherwise, I would consider them a very good filter according our BITOG members who post cut open pictures and the YouTube videos that I've watched who cut them open.

I bought one at O'Reilly for our motorhome with the V10 Ford 6.8. Got it home and put some oil in it and tried to install it. The threads were not all the way to the top so it would never start threading on. Wife was going to WalMart next morning since we were going camping. I picked up one there and it went right on. The base plate was made different on the failed one and looked like the Motorcraft with the oval holes. The kind that worked had the horseshoe shaped holes in the plate. Somebody screwed up. I took the new filter back to O'Reilly and showed them the old filter I took off and the new one I bought there and they exchanged it with no problem. The one they replaced it with had the horseshoe shaped holes in the plate.

I don't like the plastic end cap cartridge oil filters (like this Bosch which is identical to Mobil 1, but with black instead of blue end caps) because they have a tendency to do this:

Fram plastic end caps do this:

The Mann or Purolator Boss filters hold up much better. This is the worst I've ever had from a Purolator Boss or Mann filter:

Now who is going to be the new retailer for Purolator Boss filters since Advance has discontinued them?

I have seen this a lot. If I had a car that took a cartridge filter, I would just stick with OEM. My .02.

Yeah, the base Purolators appear to be the same as the OE VW filters, which appears to be the same as the Mann...I definitely skip the middle Purolator One filter (appears to be the same as Mobil 1 and Bosch), I skip the K&N filter...but the Purolator Boss filter seems to be great. I had to put the newest, 'latest greatest Advance Auto Parts Fram' in last oil change. Hopefully it has improved in quality since I last used one. I poured fresh oil in the cartridge housing after placing the filter, let it soak up - flipped it over in the housing and added more oil before it was installed. So hopefully the felt gasket was slick enough to not have another failure between the cap and filtering media. We'll see in about another 4500 miles. 🤞
