What is the best method or repairing under hood wiring, butt connectors or soldering?

The standard butt connectors are junk. The wires can wiggle and break at the crimp. You want the ones with heat shrink as part of the connector.

Ford's OEM-approved wiring repair uses heat-shrink crimp connectors. If it's good enough for an OEM, it's good enough for me.
Agreed. I see the thread was necro'd and didn't read the whole thing but this debate is like less filling vs tastes great.

It makes sense to me solder can crack in time, esp in the conditions vehicles see (vibration, constant movement, heat etc). We see this fairly often in failed modules and circuit boards in vehicles in fact.

It also makes sense to me that a properly executed mechanical connection such as crimping will prove more durable than solder.

If the opposite makes sense to others, that's ok -- they should use solder and the world won't end. I like blondes more than brunettes so I choose crimps whenever possible
