Here are 7 recent threads regarding M1 and noise complaints. Most since the SN came out. And that is just the part of the first page's search results.

Noisy Engine with Mobil 1 EP
Mobil 1 = More engine noise
Mobil 1 and Engine Noise
Mobil 1 and Excessive Engine Noise
Noisy Escape Engine using 5w30 Mobil 1
Noisy Engine with Mobil 1 0w40
...noisy valve tappets Mobil 1

I fail to see why some on here act like you kicked their dog if you dare so much as mention anything negative about Mobil 1. I would buy it, I would use it if the price and application were right but I don't drink the Mobil 1 Koolaid!

Buster just because M1 is quiet in your ride doesn't mean it is in everyone else's. Nor does it mean because some have noise that all will.

Nice try but those are SL/SM versions. In fact over half those threads are from 2003. It has nothing to do with it being Mobil 1. It has to do with actual data.

HA. I love it.

What do you love about it?

So how did pennzoil ultra get dragged into this. I thought this was a castrol vs Mobil.
And Mobil doesn't have quite the market share you might think. In Canada Mobil is used minimally due to cost and in Europe they aren't the big dog either. Just the states is Mobil a major player.

Clevy,
Forgot to provide the link. Just pointing out that all oils have some that say they get noise with which ever oil they are using. Just happens that M1 has a far wider use than all the others. Here is the link.

I wasn't trying to pull anything the look up made them all look to be in the last 3 years for some reason, one was 12 one was 13 though from a cursory second glance.

No matter really, the same crowd was sure to be defending the M1 SL and SM versions to their last breath back then as well no matter the results. You know, the SL and SM versions that absolutely nothing was wrong with, until SN came out then suddenly the problems they never had were "fixed" by SN according to the same mob. I expect to hear the exact same garbage next API go around, and I guarantee you I will.

I'm objective and reasonable I'd actually buy and use Mobil 1 in spite of the fanboy antics here, but I don't feel the need to pour it on my Cheerios...

Those links are to 10+ year old threads...???

That being said, my 5.4l modular v8 in the old 2002 ford f350 was noticeably louder with Mobil 1 full syn 5w20, it also started to leak/sweat more from the teeny tiny oil drip it has. This is about a dime sized grip spot on a cardboard test piece when left overnight.

I changed to Pennzoil yellow bottle conventional 5w20, and this quieted the engine quite a bit. I was very happy, though it did not stop or slow the dripping, same rate.

Most recently I changed to Mobil Super High Mileage (syn. blend) I used 5 qts of 5w20 and 1 qt of 5w30 and the dripping has all but stopped, and it runs just as quiet as the pennzoil so I am very happy. Fuel mileage is unchanged (well it has improved 1.2 mpg with techron treatment) as far as the oils go.

If you have a turbo, I would suggest a full syn. The guys here will steer you in the right direction. I just wanted to make you feel "good" about suspecting the mobil 1 full syn as noisier. My truck did also consume 1.5qts over 2500 miles, as to the current oil is 1/2qt consumption at a similar mileage. Im not worried about it.
