Dang, there is a lot of peg scraping going on in that video. Cool though.

Awesome. That's more like it.

Those Goldwings are some torque-monsters! Listen to the audio at about 2:28 seconds into the piece and you'll hear the rear tire chirp the pavement when he grabs a gear.

Killer vid for sure.

It certainly seems the driver was going oh so slow enough that didn't need to happen.

That's a seriously twisty road; the driver was likely going the speed limit, or slightly under. If I had a car full of occupants, out for a nice drive, videotaping the scenery, I wouldn't be flying through there just to please a bunch of bikers. Serves that dip #@$%! well that he though he was such hot #@$%! he had to 1) endanger himself (that's pretty obvious

) and 2) endanger his fellow riders and other motorists out minding their own business.

The vehicle driver said he would have pulled over had there been a pull off.

This is NOT any criticism against all motorcyclist; I get passed all the time by them on mountain roads, but it's usually not in spots like that (crotch rockets do it). A few bad apples always spoil the barrel. And like Dan the Fuel Tanker Man and GMan said, it likely wouldn't have been an issue with a competent rider - either they would have waited for a better spot or had enough skill to make the conrer no problem.

Pretty clear case of the bike riding the rider, instead of the other way around. He anticipate the hard right until the last possible second and didn't take the bull by the horns and lean the bike. They don't like to turn while standing straight up and they will fight you to continue going straight unless you lean them over. Poor slob. He needs to ride a smaller, lighter bike for a while until he learns that risking a laydown is better than driving straight down an embankment.

I've studied quite a few motorcycle safety books and accident accounts, mostly because while I love riding and do it alot, I have a healthy fear of dying on a bike.

This looks like classic target fixation as described in those accounts. A very very common cause of motorcycle accidents, especially among inexperienced riders.

You can tell this guy is inexperienced because, among other things, he passed basically on a blind right hander. It would have been dramatically easier to pass when the corner bent left. He could have just cut off the corner while the truck took the long way around....all the while being able to see to the apex of the following upcoming right-hander.

He came out of a blind corner, noticed the gully and didn't even try to lean it. He just looked straight at what he was afraid of, froze, and rode right into it. No attempt to turn and no attempt whatsoever at emergency braking. A totally unforced error.

You can lean anything over. My cousin rides a huge harley (motorcycle cop looking bike)....and I ride a sport-bike. He's hard to keep up with in the corners, even on that huge pig, he's just a really good rider.

I've ridden his harley and it turns pretty nicely actually, a bit of countersteer does the trick.

Check out this guy on what is probably an 800lb goldwing...anything will lean and turn..check out the sparks!

Viewing as much video like that as we can helps keep us safe on our bikes!

Wow that sucks. The guy driving should have tired to give some way to let the bikes pass. There was enough room. Jeez they were acting like the riders were Hells Angels...
Biker had wrong line. Was that a motor home? If it was would explain the bike passing at wrong time from lack of clear line of sight.

It was a solid line. There was nothing that the vehicle driver should have done at all. The responsibility for that was entirely the motorcyclist's. I agree with your assessment of the situation completely Jim5.

John.

The vehicle driver out of some kind of road experience should have given them some lane by moving over to their right. There was plenty of room. As for the Biker he had no line of sight and took a risk and ended up in the weeds.

I would have moved over to let the bikes pass. As biker I would have not taken that chance without seeing where I would end up.

And definately as pointed crossing a solid line is your own risk, and stupid on a road like that.

You guys keep talking about the driver of the camper moving over. Huh?

Have you ever driven that stretch of road or one like it in the Smokeys? There is virtually no shoulder. And if you do get off the road you risk getting stuck.

The driver of the camper did absolutely nothing wrong. What happened was totally the guy's fault who was riding the bike.

Although I agree with most statements made about it being the rider's fault, I think about half of the voices in the van need to be smacked around because they are annoying or stupid comments.

He rode the bike right off the road! It was standing straight up and he had the rear wheel locked and he rode it off the road. He gave up and just let himself crash. The bike rider messed up and rode the bike past his skill level.

Always ride the bike to the end! Don't just give up in a turn. Even at slow speed like thst guy did, just ride the dang thing!

Ouch...yeah locking up that back brake did not help matters at all that's for sure. I'll take my 300 lb Ninja 250 any day over some of these bigger and faster bikes in the twisties

I don't see how the driver of the car can be faulted in any way...looked like solid double lines to me
