Back in 2006-2007 before they went to the deposit sheild, people lined up to get the stuff due to its high moly. What happened? I never see it discussed here at all anymore. Do awsome UOA's still come with thier new formula? Was their old formula really that good?

I bought (6) 12qt cases of their old stuff being they were only 1.59 per qt on sale, and normal oil was 2.3x.

It's no longer a sleeper oil. When I was in Walmart last time, it was priced pretty close to Pennzoil, Castrol, and Valvoline.

The price hike is what killed it. It used to be a great bargain when it was around a buck cheaper than the big names, but now that it's the same price as PZ, QS, Valvoline and GTX it isn't too great of a deal anymore. I think Motorcraft is going to end up like Havoline, pricing itself right into the competition.

I've been here for a couple of years and, like you, have noticed that the favorites seem to come and go. For sure, Havoline was the queen of the ball a few years ago, then it went to Maxlife and now seems to be coming around to YB Pennzoil.
As far as the synthetics, German Castrol was the talk here, then it went to PP and it seems like Valvoline Full Syn. is making a play. Of course, these are merely my ballpark observations.
Might be due to changes in formulations, price, availability or merely the fact that one person asks, one person answers and 20 others merely chime-in to confirm the original answer/opinion.

I've had 2 great UOA's using the new Havoline formulation, I really like the stuff.

Havoline raised their prices, that's why it isn't popular anymore. no longer the bargain oil.

It is cyclical on here, when I started reading, it was GC, then Havoline, now it is PP. Anyone want to take a guess on what the next oil will be?

The "old school" Havoline used to be available at any Family Dollar for $1.25/qt, and there was always plenty to be had.
Sadly not so anymore.

It's because it doesn't have liquid ball bearings and it doesn't cure sludge and it doesn't have four times less wear than Mobil 1. In short, it's their marketing department. And the fact that the price went up. :-)

At least we know our engines won't get any diseases!

Nothing worse than a one-night stand and ending up with sludge!

Simple you fell into one of 2 camps when it was the darling of the board......

Cheap Dino that gave outstanding results.

or

It's loaded with MOLY and gave great results.

Now it is neither.... The new oil is not bad in any way but it is not cheap or loaded with moly.

So they went searching for the new oil.....

Honestly right now, there are NO bargains in oil!

Out south and out west I see some deals, but nothing to be had here in Western New York.

Those Shell Deals, and Chevron dino deals are not here at all. Heck the closest thing I had to an oil deal was Shell at a Walgreens that I had to mail in rebate to get it under a buck a quart (limit 5 quarts, lol)
