What experiences with Amsoil AMO 10W40 ?

What are peoples experience with this oil ? Oil base type, drainage interval, use in a daily streeter with 200,000kilomeres etc....Thanks.

It cost about $90 Australian dollars for a 5 litre jug. I can get Synpower 10W50 or Mobil 3000 5W40 for half that price. Is it worth it ?

I haven't used this oil, but I can tell you that Amsoil makes some fantastic products... I'm very happy with the ones I use and sure the AMO would do well for you.

No, I wouldn't pay twice as much for it, not to use in an old car anyway.

Get the Synpower or M1 and you'll be fine.

If you aren't going to get Amsoil, get Pennzoil Platinum ... Lots of good things on this board about it!

9.5 liters is $85US. $68 for a deal. Plus Amsoil doesn't sell 5L jugs. That's a ripoff. 1 gallon (3.8L) is $35, worst case. ($27 if you get a deal)

Pennzoil Platininum i know it good, but Made in USA version in $70 for 5 litres. There is a new Euro Version Shell is blending, hopefully its cheaper, but its strange its gone back to SL.

Mobil 1 is also expensive, but of the 5W40's the Mobil 3000 x2 is the best at $50 Oz dollars. The Synpower in 5W40 or 10W50 can be got for $45.

I understand the premium for importing. About $12 qt. US. I was off on the exchange rate though. I didn't realize the AUS$ is down to .67.

Their 10w40 MC oil is really good. Not sure about the AMO. I don't recall it being all that great compared to their other oils.

I used it over 10 yrs ago. I thought it held up well in my old LTD.

I ran it for 2 yrs/12K. I took the filter apart and it was very clean.

I might add the AME is a little less $ and holds up pretty well in gas applications.

The AME is about a $1 less for the 15W40 Diesel spec, it is one i am contemplating using. Seems very good. The MC doesnt seem to be available from that site. They are am Amsoil workshop doing minor works, oil changes etc.....

I have used AME for gas applications and it holds up well. It has an excellent additive pack.
