What are you working on today?

I rather be working on something else anything else. I think I'm getting better but saying that might be a stretch. Too bad I don't know anyone and none of the pros would want to do my small jobs.

Working at my friend's shop again this week, not much going on.

Monday
1995 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2WD
Upper and lower ball joints, right side tie rod assembly

Wednesday
2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
Passenger side front inner door handle cable

Thursday
2006 GMC Sierra 1500
Oil pan gasket

Finally finished the door work on the GMT400. BOTH doors received:
-new latch mechanisms
-new exterior handles
-new hinge pins, pin bushings, rollers and springs

In-door and under-dash work is some of my favorite stuff (I'm weird) but GM's door design is exhausting.

The driver door in particular was sagging so bad it had dog-eared and damaged the cab a bit, too. For the moment door sag is gone and everything is working as it should.

The import door rollers had a knurled section 20 thou too large. You won't be tapping in a 20 thou press fit with a hammer (or a 100 ton press).

New latch mechanisms. I can never determine if I love or hate GM's metal rod retention clips, but I'm leaning toward hate.

I wish I had your skills and talent. Thank You for sharing

Borrowed a flue gas analyzer and tuned the gas boiler up. Turns out the people that set it up when the burner was installed did a terrible job. Surprised it was actually working as well as it was. Less than 1% oxygen and maxed out the meter (2000 ppm) while still climbing on carbon monoxide readings. Now at 4.5% and less than 30 ppm CO. Can’t trust anyone to do their job…

2009 Mini Cooper, partial dash removal to check radio fuse, radio and DIC not working.
2015 Equinox, LOF and battery replacement.
2015 Edge, tire with a slow leak.
2012 F-150, coolant leak at quick connect/expansion tank.

I didn't know there was such a thing! Now to set it up with a modified 02 sensor and something you can monitor with Torque Pro while sitting on your couch.... :D "Excuse me while I weld a threaded bung into my boiler flue"

The biggest issue is safety. Standards allow a maximum of 400 ppm of CO for natural gas fired appliances. My reading maxed the meter in seconds and was still rapidly climbing. They set the air band on the burner incorrectly. It was starving for air. Very rich fuel mixture. Could have been lethal for everyone in the home if it wasn’t drafting as well as it was. Second benefit is balanced combustion and improved efficiency

Finished up the 4L65E.....

Valve Body got a TransGo SK shift kit, New Forward & Reverse Abuse Plugs, All new Delco Solenoids, & a TransGo aluminum Forward Accumulator Piston, Filter & gasket are GM.
Pan is new GM.....Not spending $100 worth of labor cleaning a raggedy, warped, dented up pan that only costs $20!

Building transmissions without a Spay/Wash Cabinet SUCKS, Probably have 5 extra unbillable hours in this unit because I had to manually clean everything with Solvent & a Pressure Washer. Thought I could just drive to my buddies shop & use his spray cabinet when I sold my old one before taking delivery of my new one. Well it just doesn't work that way! My new machine is still 6 weeks out:(.

Replaced the inner tie rods on a friend of my sister’s. Shop screwed him over and failed his car saying they were bad. They look like they had recently been done except they were quite seized. However there was no play at all in them. Boots in perfect condition too. Had to cut one boot off so was able to save the other one. I didn’t take many pictures as I had lots of penetrating oil on my hands and was just trying to get it done cause it’s cold lol. I hate when I see someone get ripped off it sickens me honestly. Especially this guy he is just a good guy trying to recover from being an alcoholic and just fell on some hard times. He was very upset to learn he had been had. I’m just so glad he didn’t pay the $400 they were wanting to replace them. Luckily he does odd jobs and had a large set of Channellocks because my inner tie rod tool for some reason didn’t have the right size in it even though it’s supposed to work for all of them. He is going back for his reinspect next week. In Virginia if you receive a rejection sticker you will be fined if you are caught on the road unless you are going to a repair shop. And he relys on this for his work. Also the shop that did the inspection has to have the same inspector do the reinspect and they are only allowed to reinspect what it was failed for as long as it’s within 15 days. And can only charge $1 for the reinspect. I’m one who gets extremely upset when I know someone got ripped off. I always try to do what’s right and help someone out when I can. I believe if I’m good to people they will be good to me which has proved right multiple times for me.

Wow 😳
And people say New York is a crooked money grab 😒
Thus always to tyrants my ass, what an L state 🙄
I'm not a vengeful person, but businesses that treat people like that long enough will eventually get what's coming to them
... eventually 😤

Brakes all the way around on my Daughters Mazda 3. Reybestos Element 3 EHT.
I also installed new hardware (included with rear pads, purchased for the front since they were not included with the front pads) and new slide pin bushings.
Sil-Glyde on the slide pins and Permatex Silicone Ceramic Extreme on the back of the pads.

2008 Mercedes E320 V6 Diesel started rough, like missing on one cylinder and immediately threw a P0174 code.
Pulled the plugs on the MAFs and it ran fine. Pulled the batwing intake and spray cleaned the MAF sensors. Couldn't get them clean all the way out to the edges after spray/soak and spray/soak/spray. Plugged back up and ran fine, code cleared itself immediately.
After 14 years and 155k miles, I guess the mesh is degraded. So ordered a new batwing. No Chinesium, the new one is German. The MAFs are integral and can't be replaced separately. Mercedes, you got me in your trap for the first time in 14 years with this car.

The RX needed tires. No one has them in stock locally. I don’t mess with Firestone or Big O, or even worse, a mom & pop shop who sells mostly LingLong/Otani or some other Chineseium. Went to an America’s Tire some 30 miles away. 4 hour wait. Left with a set of Pirellis. Tomorrow, LOF and clean the interior.

The washer.. Was making a terrible racket. Thought it was something in the pump again but looks clean. Took everything apart I dare to and cleaned it good. Guessing the clutch might be done. Oh well it's a 98 and has did 1000s of loads.

Did fix the vacuum at least. Amazing how many are thrown out when all they need is a high pressure cleaning. Blew it out and good to go, paid $25 for it at goodwill at least 10+ years ago.

The body shop made a few errors on the Milan
So I had to tuck in and resecure some weatherstripping, adjust the wiper arms so they park at exactly the right spot
Top off washer fluid, fresh NWB wiper blades, air up the tires
Should be back in business, gotta take it for NYS inspection this week 😳
