What are you working on today?

2wd GMT400 trucks had packable bearings. 4wd had sealed hub units. I wasn't going to put new rotors on it without recommending new bearings and seals. Good thing I did, they were dry and badly scored.
That’s good you checked them then for sure. I’ve often been able to just re-grease them and extend there life but that is also before they get scored.

Wife's car has a rattle; I think it's swaybar bushings.

Same car has a bit of noise on the HVAC blower. Cannot seem to figure out how to open it up and oil the bearings--may have to just order a new one.

I *should* be working on my ATV as it has a snow plow and we're supposed to be getting snow. But I've about had it with carbs, been through it twice with no resolution yet. But it's the first warm day in a while, so I really should have been tackling that job (again).

Today I changed the brake lights on my Gen 1 Tundra. I noticed one side had burnt out so I changed them both. These are a combination taillight and brake light.

Here's what was needed.

The lights are easy to get at by lowering the tailgated and removing (2) 10mm bolts that hold on the housing. After the top and bottom bolts are removed there are two pins that still hold in housing that fit into rubber grommets. By pulling straight out with even pressure eventually housing pops out. It wants to stay in there. I like the Toyota design because nothing is exposed to the elements.

The bulb to remove is the one in the middle. It takes a 3157 bulb. Rotate the fixture counterclockwise and it pulls out easily.

Replace the old bulb with a new one. They push straight in there is no twisting the bulb to install it.

As they like to say, re-assembly is the reverse of disassembly. Then repeat on the left side brake light bulb.

Everything works of course and the new bulbs are also much brighter.

As I took the housings off I noted some surface rust and sprayed with Fluid Film. Also sprayed the bolts and all mounting hardware and the rubber grommets with the Dupont Silicone Lubracant with Teflon. The whole job took maybe six minutes per side including photos.

Various things on customers cars. Tonight I’m doing an oil change, oil pan gasket, tire balance and rotation and alignment on my friends 1995 Ford Escort wagon. He is coming to my school so we have access to a lift and everything to make it much easier.

Currently just trying to keep my fleet of garbage drivable. Finally we are past the -30 to 40 ambient and fighting one more day of -40 windchill. Cycling battery tenders on my Trailblazer, C1500 and 3500.

Everything was freezing up and fighting dead batteries, atrocious fuel mileage and flat tires.

Just completely disassembled the dryer. The motor seized. Took it out and took the end seals off, it has those felt pads that are supposed to saturated with oil to lube the shafts. I put some ATF+4 in there and it freed it right up. Put it back together, seems to be working fine now, fingers crossed.

The other day I diagnosed the tone ring on the Escape. Today she got fixed. It would of been so much easier with a lift though. Fortunately the last guy used plenty of anti seize so everything was easy to take apart except the axle nut which was extremely easy and covered in anti seize which I cleaned off really good because I don’t use anti seize on axle nuts.

Bought a cheap oil extractor pump, just took it apart to see what I got and it's this type. Full metal construction except for a plastic gear.

Which is excellent news as they pump a lot faster than membrane pumps. I also found the suction hose fits my brake bleeder grommet so I can use it to bleed the brakes aswell. Greased the reduction gear as it was bone dry and gave it a test spin. Popped the cap right off the tube and sent it flying through the room so makes good pressure. I will buy a spare I think.

this is the one...

Also put the spare battery on the charger, see it's already gone into maintainer mode so that's good. Will be using this to replace the clutch actuation fluid, just a drain and fill as I don't have the software to cycle all the valves for bleeding.

Total fluide LDS going in, holy viscosity index, batman! PAO based.

That went easy, 600 ml out in a minute or so, slightly thinner fluid in... including cleaning up afterwards it was a 5 minute job, and including topping off that battery again.

Had lunch so will go on a test drive now...

Will use the old fluid to soak ratchet spanners in.

Finishing up helping a friend put lower control arms on a 2003 Honda Accord. Begrudgingly so, no less. I'm ready for this cold weather to be gone.

Apparently its warming up here. -24c last night but should be mid teens by the afternoon. If the forecast holds true, we are done with colder than -30 windchills.

I need to fill up a flat tire on the quad and see if I can get it to run today to break up some solid drifts.

Then I got some electric fence to fix, de-ice a water trough and gas up the sleds.

Wanted to service my brakes aswell, but it started to rain so maybe tomorrow. Don't need to change any parts, but it doesn't hurt to check everything that should move does, and the rest doesn't... Then I want to add a piece of aluminum sheet to the undertray and change the oil and filter.

not looking forward to doing the filter, that's the one thing I'd change on this car...

The dualogic oil has been changed and shifts firmed up no end. Shopping has been done.

Figuring out how to deal with this in the cold snowy weather we're experiencing right now

Swapped some paint with someone, IMO there was blame on both sides, cash was exchanged and that was the end of it

Didn't know till later that he got the paint damage, I got paint AND suspension damage

...an interesting drive to the shop for sure
