What are you working on today?

Defeated the tab today. Got the cover off and replaced the gasket. 🙂. Used my new battery ratchet too.

Worked on a friend’s older MB C300. I have been looking after this car for a few years. Resealed the lower oil pan, oil and filter change, brake fluid flush and exterior wash. It has been over 14 months since the last service, but only ~2500 miles.

Hopefully the oil pan reseal won’t bite me. I’ve been warned that the pans sometimes warp and will develop leaks after the reseal.

It wasn't exactly today but I completed the work this weekend. I was driving my old Sienna the other day and I noticed the steering wheel was cocked about 45 degrees, when I checked the four wheels I found the right rear one canted to the inside and rubbing against the shock absorber. Long story short the rear axle beam had rusted through near the bearing attachment. This could have been catastrophic had I continued to operate it this way.

I found a suitable used beam at a junkyard 2 1/2 hours away in central Wisconsin (not easy to find a good used one here) and installed that. It needed new brake hoses and lines in the back plus two new wheel cylinders. It's back on the road again and seems no worse for wear.

I also had to fabricate two new exhaust hangers since both were rusted away. That took more time than the beam replacement.

Replaced batteries in a 2000 Camry and 2011 Edge.... Intended to use the Camry to go fetch a battery for the Edge, but the Camry battery happened to die when I tried to use it. Bought two East Penn made lead acid batteries at WalMart for $100 each (Everstart Maxx). Now need to figure out how to do the BMS reset on the Edge. Previous batteries are 4-5 year old, one AAA, one Exide.

I've got a 2011(?) Toyota Matrix sitting in the yard with no starter, no battery, no back seat and the dash torn half out. It smells like a wet dog in a dumpster on the inside and I have no idea if the engine is any account. Oh well, getting paid by the hour so...

Guess today I'll see if the matrix is going to run. Customer brought a used starter and new battery last night. Also have two ignition coils and a set of plugs to put in the terrain.

The matrix is running. The drain plug was stripped and upon pulling it out I discovered the lower sump pan was bent in such a way that a new drain plug and seal wouldn't seal against the pan. Customer provided a used lower sump pan and now it's all together and ready to be picked up in the morning. Did the plugs and coils on the Terrain and it's also ready to go.

What kind of plugs did you use for the Terrain? I don’t do too many domestics so I’m just curious as to what you use in them.

I put AcDelco plugs in GM's, Motorcraft or Autolites in Fords and Champions in Chrysler's.
Good to know in case I ever do those. Finally someone who doesn’t talk down about Autolite I just put those in my Ford. Everyone else I talked too besides a few others have said they are bad plugs. We were going to get Motorcraft but Autolite makes Motorcraft and the Motorcraft were $2 more a piece and we needed 6 so we went with the Autolite.

I've never had problems with Autolites that I haven't had with other brands of plugs. They should do the job well.
