What are you working on today?

I'm in the Unity area, so west central now but lived just north of regina back in the 90s and regina, moose jaw, PA area.

It is a dry cold alright. So dry your hands crack, cough your lungs up sucking that air in at night

What kind of paint did you use on the manifolds? Just curious what you use. Does it last very long?
Its duplicolor engine enamel cast iron grey. It last a decent amount of time. More suitable to frequently showed, less driven applications. For regularly driven ceramic coating would probably be better.

I didn't know where Unity was (though must have seen a sign on the Yellowhead a few times) so looked it up. Not too far from Lloydminster and The Battlefields, and saw Rosetown there too - Gordie Howe country! Well, the days are getting longer, and the sun felt strong today - milder days ahead!

I’d never turn down work lol. Especially as slow as the auto repair business has been in my area.
Ok. I'm not doing it for a living, I have my retirement. I do it as side income. Doing cam and lifters in a late model hemi is a job that gives 14 hours labor, requires removal of the cylinder heads, timing cover and oil pan, and the engine is halfway under the cowl on a late model ram. There are plenty of shops with guys younger and more eager than me to do that ****. I'm old and tired. If light auto repair dries up around my area, I'll go stock shelves at the grocery store.

Oh ok I thought you were doing it as a full time career. I can’t turn down work anyway I do what is assigned to me anyway by my boss lol but all of that yeah that doesn’t sound fun. Yeah it’s been very slow here many shops have closed up. We are staying in business because of road calls and stuff mainly. And there is a major parts shortage too in my area at least. Which sucks because we have had to wait weeks on parts for stuff that could of been done in a couple hours.

I helped brother do a late model HEMI repair; let’s just say it’s interesting and at times made our heads hurt. You think it’s fun; try doing a few especially in a ram truck. I’m lucky I can tell my boss “send this one to the dealer!”

Yeah I haven’t worked on many of the new models. I’ve worked on a 2012 Ram that my friend has with the 5.7 Hemi in it not too fun. And you have to stand on a stool to reach anything lol.

Diagnosed the problem with the Escape. The tone ring is broke all the way through and the ring was spinning freely so looks like I’ll be doing a tone ring. I hope it isn’t one you have to take the axle off and press on.

That's a far cry from replacing the lifters on an old SBC! That was an easy job back in the day. It's too bad the heads have to come off the Hemi.

Common on these. I've done the tone ring replacement right on the vehicle. Most places try to sell a shaft assembly up here.
That is good to hear. It has been a long while since I done a tone ring. So it doesn’t require a press then? That is good because I really don’t feel like pulling the axle off.

I hope this pad slap doesn’t come back to bite me in the ass later on. I used the same Wagner pads I used 5 years on this job - but they were made in Mexico. They are semi-metallic. I used Toyota rubber grease instead of Ford specified silicone grease(Dow 111) and CRC Silaramic grease on the pad ears.
