What are you working on today?

Finally put a battery in the daughters 2018.5 Nissan Rogue, along with air filter / cabin air filter / Techron / washer fluid etc. Can't remember when she last had the oil changed but wouldn't let me do it as she was on a time constraint. Compromised and used my extractor and pulled as much out of it as I could then refilled with Mobil 1. Poor car has led a rough life, I don't know how women can expect something to just magically work with no upkeep? I honestly expected a rodent or two to fall out when I pulled the cabin filter out.

2008 Ford F150 (my co-worker's truck again):

New side mirrors after the passenger side got whacked. He also requested the driver's side to be replaced too since it started 'browning' typical of heated side mirrors.
New ignition key cylinder after ignoring the old cylinder falling out. Old cylinder was missing its wafers so keying the replacement cylinder was trial and error even after watching a yb video showing how to read the key to it's sized wafer, etc.. Co-worker was happy that the key isn't falling out of the ignition cylinder. Did recommend he gets duplicate keys made for original missing the keyring then return back to get them reprogrammed.

Link bars, link bars, and more link bars this week. Today I cut more wood and added to the burn pile. Worked from 8:30 to about 4:40, stopped for about 10 minutes to eat a pack of peanut butter crackers and some canned tuna.

Used the 04 Ford primarily today, noticed the intermittent timing chain noise is still present. Guessing it's got a tensioner that isn't holding pressure sometimes, as the issue didn't really change with the filter swap I did last week. Only does it a couple of seconds, when it does it. Just going to keep driving it, otherwise runs great and quiet.

Just replaced the thermostat on the van.... Coolant was struggling to hit 185, oil temp was barely hitting 120 and the heat sucked no matter what. $25 at AutoZone and 30 minutes at work. Hardest part was finagling the air box out of the way.

Unfortunately put the boat on the trailer for the season yesterday. Will install the cover today after the dew dries out. I always plan to fish during the month of December but the reality is I don’t like to be cold. It’s an aging thing I reckon…

Yesterday I ran my new truck and lowboy trailer in two local Christmas parades. Everything went really well other than I snagged a mudflap on the truck and destroyed it and the hanger….oh well I wanted chrome ones anyway.

Today I did another coolant flush on my F250 to get the freeze point a little lower. Greased my dump truck with Schaeffer 219, put two new Mack fuel filters on and installed a new Donaldson Blue air filter. I do fuel filters and the air filter every December which works out to 1000-1200 hours usually. After lunch today I’m headed to the fire department to troubleshoot an intermittent dying problem on one of our tankers and after that I’m pulling a hub off my lowboy trailer as I noticed I had a wheel seal just barely starting to leak while decorating for the parade yesterday.

Noticed the RF tire was flat in the garage so it was coming off anyway. So I did the 5-tire rotation on the Toyota SUV at the 6500 mile interval, got the flat patched, and put it in the reserve position.
Noticed the LF wheel spindle cover was moist with grease at its lip during the tire rotation, also rubber boots L and R antisway bar links were torn. Got 'em all replaced 2 days ago at the shop. The FL wheel bearing was fine, but was starting to leak grease.

2002 Silverado 1500 4.3L/4L60....P0300, P0172, & P0175.

Cylinder #6 would misfire occasionally at idle, Bank 2 was maxed out with negative fuel trims....Bank 1 was right at the threshold of setting P0172 (Bank 1 Rich).

Classic symptoms of a leaky Fuel Pressure Regulator, You can see all the carbon washed off on #6 intake port.

My local dealer had a OE Delco regulator.

I flow tested & cleaned the Injectors/Poppets while I had the Spider assembly out.....It's in really good shape for what appears to be a factory unit!

Felpro was the only Plenum gaskets I could get on short notice, They'll be fine unless you try to reuse them.

Replaced the 2 fuel line O-rings as they were in rough shape.

Fixed the broken muffler and mid pipe on Dakota today. Now pondering next oil to use in it. Either Felvac extreme 10w-30 or ESP 5w-40
I’d stick with 5w30. Had a mix of 10w30 and 15w40 last time and the oil pressure gauge reads alot higher with 5w30. Just from history with the truck seems to run smoother with a little better mpg. Those 3.9’s don’t need the thick stuff.

I’m suspecting my 3.9 is tad worn judging by oil psi at stop lights with 5w-30 so I’ll probably stick with 10w-30

'98 GMC 2500 5.7 with P0340 for CMP and three of the 02s had set codes. Didn't make sense a CMP and three 02s would all be bad -- I suspected the latter was a symptom of the former.

In speaking with the owner he recently had some "tune up" work done at another shop. Well, it's the darndest thing, but if you don't plug the CMP back in, it trips a code and doesn't run all that great. Huh.

Installed a new WIN node in my non-profit's '12 Ram 1500. This started an overly and unnecessarily long process to get the PIN (I finally used Jscan after the "CHRYSLER PIN PULL" app proved to be free and worth EXACTLY what you pay for it).

Thoroughly annoyed, I wrote the PIN in several locations on the backside of the knee bolster :D for future reference (like programming more keys).

Beyond that the "WIN Replaced" and key programming functions of my Otofix worked great!

Finally finished up the 6R140. This one burnt direct clutch. Getting some of the parts was challenging. This one got a full raybestos GPZ kit, sonnax zip kit for valve body, new separator plate. New direct clutch hub, full bushing kit, and new converter. This is all the photos I have sorry.

Seeing as the weather is turning to garbage real fast, i got 2 of 4 sleds running. Tomorrow I will get my daughter's Escape in for yet another wheel bearing making noise.

The wife asked if I would use my amazing sense of cheapness to source her an air filter for the blow dryer in her grooming salon. Apparently, the manufacturer wants $50 each which is ridiculous considering it's a 3"x8" round paper filter.

I used the Wix cross-by-size chart on their website and boom: turns out it's a Wix 42040, used on 4bbl Dodge, Plymouth, and DeSoto's from '58-'63. Who would have thought?! Punched that number into Rock Auto and there it was: private label (CQ) 87040's for $1.07 each. Even the full price Wix is less than $10, a massive savings vs. buying from the manufacturer.

Saved $84 on a pair of air filters, and I get another magnet to boot!
