In Elizabethan times pumpkins were called pompions (pumpions) which mutated into pumpkins in the mid 1600s. The original pompion/pumpion pie sounds interesting. It's not a custard pie like a modern pumpkin pie but rather more like an apple pie with pumpkins. Max Miller has a walkthrough video on YT. I think Ill try the old recipe this year.

No pic but I've been craving fried fish for a while. Bought a bag of frozen fish and some cornmeal. Oil to fry it in cost more than the fish and cornmeal and the onion and mayo (made tartar sauce) all combined. Last time I wanted fish it was the same. Oil is good enough that I'll pour off the oil leaving the solids for the trash and do chicken strips next weekend. That will take the sting out of buying a gallon of oil for a one time use.

The hushpuppies may have been the best part. Lots of fine minced onion and garlic. So good!

I dunno.

But that Election Cake is DA BOMB.

My dinner tonight was an old trail standby. Wheat tortillas filled with chili from an MRE retort with a liberal application of tobacco sauce. Washed down with coffee from a thermos. Chocolate covered almonds for dessert.

You are spending the night in a lean-to or in a hollowed-out tree?
