What are you doing right now?

I’m sitting here chilling and playing with my new Apple Watch Series 10 in Silver Aluminum 46mm. I love the watch and the light blue band suits it so well. Nice and sleek. I am also drinking hot chocolate out of my SpongeBob coffee cup.

In general isn't the main function geared for fitness enthusiasts.

It has a good fitness monitor on it. I see Fitbit as being for fitness enthusiasts mainly. I mainly got it as a want because I like Apple and also want to make sure when people see my watch and my moms watch they know I’m the smart one with Apple lol. So far I’m loving it though having the time, weather, texts all on my arm plus much more.

We are riding around. Dad got up really late so we haven’t ate yet or anything. I want to go get some shoes today hopefully. I’m sure we are going to go sit down in a restaurant somewhere like I hate doing but it is what it is I guess.

Shopping CL. Still failing to find what I want. Wondering if I should give up and overpay on (another) Corolla. The used market is nuts, and I'm both cheap and a luddite. Kicking myself for not flying someplace this holiday break to find something rust free, and cheap.

Well, one solution is to get into your own vehicle and drive straight to the shoe store, stopping along the way at the kolache shop to get an on the go breakfast.

46 mm? I'll have to call you Ben 10. My largest watch is 55 mm across but at least its 1,200 m WR so it has an excuse.

Just got back from meeting my wife's niece and her kids as we missed them for Christmas. We went out for lunch and then took the kids to a trampoline park.

I wish I still had half the energy these kids have.

Nothing to do around here. I already ate the frog before sunrise and am done. The family has dispersed into the four winds. I don't feel like going into the water. The big drink, I mean. I did doggie-paddle around in the pool earlier. Wife's gone for two days, the cats do cat things, the dog and I are having a détente I'd hate to upset so I will leave him be. I can't stand being unoccupied.

Started testing 2mm pencil leads to see which grades I really need. I ran a little test. The 8B is Kohinoor, the others are all Faber-Castell. The latter brand has the best quality lead based on smoothness, how long the lead lasts, and break resistance. Faber doesn't make an 8B and Kohinoor is pretty much the only option in 2mm. These are traditional graphite leads, not the new and fancier matte ones.

I only tested the leads I had. I shaded the little boxes from lightest to darkest each grade could achieve. Interestingly, B, 2B, and 4B are near identical with little difference in range. For art stuff I'd likely go with 8B, 2B/3B. H an 2H as essentials. Generally speaking, the applications are:

drawing 8B-2H
technical drawing HB-2H
writing B-F

Lead grades vary between brands. There is no standard even if they use the same H to B grades.

Phone was set to very low res. Sorry about that.

Sounds like time for a trip to the library. I was a 1970's dork and always liked a 0.9mm lead holder with 2B for my day to day.
2B is as all-around useful as can be. Pencils are underappreciated these days. They can write on most surfaces, including galvanized metal. Because graphite is shiny you can mark or write on very dark surfaces. Graphite pencil marks also do not oxidize significantly over time.

I gave each of my nephews a Kindle for Christmas. Each Kindle was preloaded with a few hundred books from my E-library. I hear the younger one is fascinated by The Mysterious Island, The older one likes the Earthman Jack series that my friend suggested.

Maybe I'll go though some of Grandpa's things. I always find neat or mysterious items. I didn't alter but preserve his study. It's full with curious things and books. Maybe I'll check for double bottoms in all drawers. After he died we found $20,000 that he had hidden behind the double-walled closet in his bedroom. We got rid of the closet because it wasn't a very nice peiece and because it was pretty beat up. When we carried it downstairs the back fell off and the money fell out. It must have been Grandpa's emergency cash stash - he was doing his banking business into his 90s. Maybe I should start digging under the house?

You inspired me to buy a nice one for woodworking. Regret not buying two! Bright enough body to find. Wide but sharp lead. Not brittle lead. Repeat picture

I raided Grandpa's stationary drawer like a grave robber.

I found a Montblanc fountain pen and a few coins. Grandpa was a bit too young to have served in WW2 but he did travel across Europe as a child in the 1930s. That would explain the 1936 5 Reichsmark silver coin but not the 1808 Thaler silver coin. There's also a 100 Yen coin and a 1940 nickel and a 1966 quarter that has clearly been through the ringer. I am not aware of what significance these coins held for my grandpa but he was still working for the Foreign Service the time and dealt a lot with the Commies. Maybe they ran grandpa's wallet through a wood chipper and that's how the quarter got chipped. Because the coin is worn smooth I suspect it was a lucky charm for decades.

I went on a day trip with my daughter today. We stopped at the Salt Creek recreational area along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Here is a nice view overlooking the strait with Vancover Island, British Columbia in the background from where we stopped to make a pot of coffee during our hike.

We are leaving Walmart. At least I’ve only got to work 4 days this week I really don’t feel like working lol. We should only have to work 3 but they are making us work New Year’s Eve which is pretty ridiculous in my opinion.
