Kids having a sleep over so I'm just relaxing now. Cut some lawn, did somw chores and asked the girls to grab some baby carrots, peas and lettuce from the garden. Well turns out the potatoes are coming along quite well too. My daughyers friend, who is 11 comes from a farming family that has quite the garden. She checks the spuds and digs them up and away we go!
So we had a nice salad with supper and tomorrow we are doing farm eggs and homemade hash browns for breakfast. Might BBQ some veggies for lunch or supper.
So I grew up in a family that did a lot of gardening. I never appreciated it and cursed having to do anything with it. In 2008 or so I did a small garden at my first house and still did not have the discipline or the appreciation yet.
Well I'm glad I dove in this year! My girls and I worked on it together and to see things come to fruition and use it to feed my family makes me immensely proud.
We also picked up our 1/4 beef today. A friend sent one of their Speckle Park 4H competition steers to the butcher. Incredible beef to say the least. Pay more up front but cheaper in the long run and so much better than that high density feed lot garbage.
So now I segway into my need to get a pellet grill.
