I've just taken possession of a company car for my wife's employer. It has been transferred here for an employee that will rotated in for three months. It was due for an oil change, so I took it to a Kwik Kar place.

As the vehicle was getting the oil changed, one of the employees asked what type of oil he wanted. The guy said Pennzoil and the employee said he didn't like it. Having a gut feeling about what he would say next, I asked why he didn't like Pennzoil. "It has wax in it and they use a cheaper base stock than Valvoline which uses a much better one." The customer chose to go with Castrol since he felt it was a good oil.

At least he didn't go with that candle in a bottle Pennzoil.

I wonder how many people that employee has steered away from Pennzoil in his time there. There a a Valvoline shop, but carry many different brands of stuff in bottles. A Mobil 1 change is only $70. Royal Purple is a great deal at $65. I selected Valvoline for the car. I think it was $36.

I bet there's some people that do the $70 Mobil 1 change every 3,000 miles.

I can change the oil for the 3 cars that I service 3 times a year for $70!

I can do three cars for $6. using my FAR oil and my totalgrip filters that is.

Alot of those places still charge $30 for labor if you bring your own oil and filter.

But then again, if you just dont want to do it yourself, or have no idea that you can do it yourself, or just want to "save yourself the time"...

If I was the next guy in line, I would've demanded Pennzoil. With extra wax. Just for the look on the grease monkey's face.

If he was there when I walked in, I would have been sure to ask for Pennzoil. My vehiclew was already in the bay when he said this. Alas, it is a fleet vehicle so it's not my concern. I do my own oil changes and moments like today will keep me doing so.

Yep. Girl I work with takes her CTS in every 3k miles for the Mobil 1 oil change (at a M1 quick lube place). When I found out, I told her to go by the OLM or just go 5-6k. She was soooo happy and saved her a lot of money that she really needs.

Well, I'm screwed, I just filled my 30k truck full of wax. LOL I can't believe people believe that garbage. I think all mechanics/Techs should be tested with a BITOG online test to get their oil knowledge certificate!

Well Pennzoil used to have that problem...it lead to sludge in motors and all the guys passed it on down through the generations...Pennzoil is a good oil now, but and they have tried hard to beat that old wrap.

But Valvoline dino supposedly has the highest parifin content now in their base?

BRAVO!! It's the "heavy on the wax" part that added that perfect touch...

Thank you, thank you, I'm here all week...

...because my engine is plugged up with Pennzwax.

Use Castrol I hear it's better than Valvoline which is better than Mobil-1. Gosh if oils keep getting better we will never have to replace our cars...
