I decided to go back in time, a time when Fram could actually stamp a leaf spring, for the last year I had been casually looking for the old ultras in 3614 size, but it seems they either are all bought up or command a high price, then I started looking at tough guards, found a few one or two, but cost of shipping didn't make sense to buy them, so I found these slightly longer 8316's, back then the tough guard was their best filter for efficiency, tg's were 99% at 20, the xg was I believe 96%, I found a case of 12 tg8316 from a seller, got not too bad of a deal on them, one didn't pass my qc, it has a dent, think I will cut that one and have a look.

Screen over the byapss valve ... Purolator needs that on the junk glue models that shed glue, lol.

Back when SAE J1858 was the multi-pass efficiency test. ISO 45487-12 replaced that test, and is basically the same test with tweaks.

I well remember the TG with the screen over bypass feature. It was a TG unique feature When discussed, some thought a good thing, others not as sold on it. I thought it ok but not of much useful significance. But, no doubt more expensive to produce than without it. It was quietly deleted from use iirc 'perhaps' around the time Rank bought Fram from Honeywell. As noted the anti-siphon valve for very specific application (eg Zetec) where keeping oil in filter on outlet/downstream side important. Could also be found on the PH/EG equivalent.

Thanks for c&p.

Screen is not a necessity, but it's cool to have and to think a filter company actually tooled up to do it, all hail Allied Signal!
