When I was a boy in the 80's my dad would use whatever oil was the cheapest or on sale at K Mart, which would have been 10W-30 for everything we owned on wheels to include the lawnmower. I think what was more taboo than anything in the realm of oils were full synthetics. Those old boys were skeptical and didn't trust anything man made versus tried and true dino oil.
