I see LL Bean has several bags with WAXED CANVAS for the material. What is the advantage over a Sturdy nylon or heavy canvas?

Water resistant. Our old Boy Scout tents were waxed canvas and they were very waterproof except at the seams.

Take two litres of mineral turpentine, and a caulking tub of clear silicon (100%), and dissolve the silicon in the solvent.
Take an old queen sized sheet, and work the liquid all the way through it, epstein it to dry....very very water resistant and flexible.
I make them for covering stuff in the ute.

It's water resistant and has a distinct look.

IMO it looks nicer as it wears in.

Any remember the foul weather M/C riding gear that was waxed canvas in the late 1960s and 1970s ? It was cool way back then

Waxed canvas looks good and you can "clean" it but you can't really sanitize it. Kinda gross after a while depending on your standards.

Great feel, but from a purely practical standpoint synthetic material is better. That said, I'd choose waxed canvas but then I was a waxed canvas jacket guy since before it was trendy.
