Probably a CYA policy. The installer doesn't know if the old line was abused or kinked, say when moving the dryer to vacuum dust or clean the vent.

It's kinda like reusing cotter pins. Despite the warning, we've all done it.

Exactly. Our line was fairly new to start, so I was not too worried.
