Are these pets? Did you buy them for food? I can't imagine you're out much money to even bother asking for it back. I mean, eggs are what? 25 cents. How much more are chicks? 2 bucks?

Not sure if these are the same prices as ordering in person. I only see quantities of 10 for sale, other than 40 for one option.

I see them sold as either female or “unsexed”, meaning it’s likely random. And then there’s how they’re checked, which isn’t exactly a DNA test.

I can't say we've ever that that bad a ratio of "mistakes" but usually there is one or two in a box.
Its farming, you bought 8 only expecting to have 4 laying right?
Some hens will crow if there's no roosters around as well, so have a real close look before you start wringing necks.
We have ~50 hens and 5-6 roosters free ranging around our place and I just sleep with a fan on in front of the window to keep them from waking me up too early.
We haven't bought chickens for a few years now...

I looked at what TS has for sale online, which is mailed and then has to be picked up within 24 hours of delivery to a post office. I suppose for egg laying hens, the option for females costs more, but there should be an allowance for limited errors. Not sure how they would handle returns. Was surprised that shipping is included.

I’ve seen chickens, and roosters are pretty easy to tell past a certain age by the size of the comb.

And it’s not fun to think about slaughtering chicks that are less than a day old. That’s the norm for males when they’re sorted for females that customers want as egg layers.

Interesting article on the shipping of live chicks. Apparently they don’t have to feed for 72 hours after hatching, so they get shipped almost immediately. And the shippers generally don’t file loss claims because they don’t want an excuse for USPS to stop or restrict this business.

We had a BIG fox (astounding in size to me) which got into a neighbor's hen house.
12 chickens (good layers) became one. No more <1 day old eggs.

A bobcat. I fixed that problem.... new roof.

Ya I dont want anything bad to happen to them. We raised them from babies. This is the main offender.

I did a little reading, and Tractor Supply will give a partial refund if the sex selection is worse than their guarantee, but I couldn’t find a time limit. There should be terms available somewhere,

Six out of eight is of course 75%, so the warranty does apply. It is not clear how they make compensation though.

This year we purchased an order of 10 pullet chicks from the McMurray Hatchery. They are a very reputable company. But unfortunately in our order were two roosters. So I think it must be difficult to 100% accurately sex chicks. I never thought about asking for a refund....it's just the luck of the draw. Now we are stuck with trying to give away our two roosters as or residence location specifically forbids the keeping of roosters (noise obviously).

Some countries don’t allow slaughter of chicks, but do allow destruction of eggs before they’re hatched. I guess with different detection techniques.

you have to give them a place to roost or you wont find the eggs. Local food pantry accepted roosters

This happens alot at TSC. People get them out of the bins to play with them and put them back wherever. No employee at TSC can sex them, so unless they're 'sex-link' chicks (a hybrid that you can tell apart visually), they get mixed up.

They really need to disallow the general access.

I was trying to figure out how this worked since all I could find directly from the TS website is that they sold mail order through a breeder. But I guess they have "Chick Days" where they're available at stores.

I saw on this vid the host referred to female selected as pullets, and unselected as "straight run".

No. We bought the ones that were supposed to be females. The word escapes me right now.

I'd be curious what Tractor Supply's policy is since I can't find it anywhere. I suppose it might be on the cardboard carrier.

Not sure what their policy might be for in-store purchases where there might be a minimum of 4 or 6. Most that I can find that ship to the buyer guarantee 90% accuracy. I saw one that guarantees 100%. Not sure if this is in the form of a refund or shipping a replacement.

Wife bought 8 baby chickens @ tractor supply. We raised them untill they could go outside. Turns out we got 2 roosters. We don't want roosters.

Since we bought chickens but didnt get what we bought should we be entitled( hate to use that word) to 2 replacements?

Tractor Supply says no. Seems unfair to mis represent the birds.

Might be a little too late.

But seriously, the OP might just ask for a refund. Even if they had more chicks that could be replacements, I'm thinking differing age might be a factor.

We have people with chickens even in cities that allow limited livestock. Roosters are strictly illegal. Once I drove through a city and saw a loose rooster and called it in. It was going to get run over eventually. But when I called in they said they'd already received calls and thought that they knew who it might belong to.

In that case they owe him 2....... or as you pointed out, a refund for the two roosters.
