Marketing, the same reason why people buy name brand Tylenol or Marlboro. Frankly the entire concept is there to separate you from your money.

Remember the OPEC oil embargo 50+ years ago? I'm sure you do.We all have repeatedly seen why being in the world market is a bad thing. Go back 50 or 60 years to when everything we consumed was produced in this country. We didn't have these problems then...
I wasn’t even alive when this happened yet I was surprised no one else mentioned it.Remember the OPEC oil embargo 50+ years ago? I'm sure you do.
I see… market shortages and global supply disruption shouldn’t affect prices? It's just another excuse to gouge consumers...
I don't recall the '73-'74 one but the '79 issues I do. You could only by gas on odd/even days based on license plate #. My parents had one odd and one even My job daily was to swap plates as needed so dad go and keep them full so he could go to work. Most places had limits on gallons.Remember the OPEC oil embargo 50+ years ago? I'm sure you do.
And that was a product we had to rely on another country for...even then we were getting screwed by the world economy...Remember the OPEC oil embargo 50+ years ago? I'm sure you do.
It's totally pathetic and you're absolutely right.Wouldn't make that blanket statement at all. It entirely depends on the individual vehicle and usage case.
Many turbo GDI fuel dilluters shouldn't be going the recommended OCI with their recommended weight oils, much less pushing that out a couple thousand miles. Ironically, newer vehicles might be returning to the 3000 mile oil change.
Again, if we produced what need in this country, we wouldn't be having this problem...I see… market shortages and global supply disruption shouldn’t affect prices?
Perhaps we can just hope for a recession, you know, to help consumers.
Some just gotta spend the extra $$$ to get their warm fuzzies...Marketing, the same reason why people buy name brand Tylenol or Marlboro. Frankly the entire concept is there to separate you from your money.
I kinda feel like you don't understand how all this works...or has worked for generations...Again, if we produced what need in this country, we wouldn't be having this problem...
I said it once and I'll say it again, all the non-BITOG-type people in my life thought I was crazy buying oil as often as I did.
Now I'm set for years with top flight oil I bought for about 1/3 of what it's currently priced at in Canada. Who's the crazy one NOW![]()

Yup, this. We're definitely still crazy, just not as crazy in the present.Oh no, we're still crazy. By sheer accident it just happens to be useful at the moment.
