Even if M1 EP isn't on sale it is $29 normally. I wouldn't stop using what I wanted for $3 an oil change. I buy M1 EP from walmart as well. You can always get it on sale every couple months.I went to WM today with an open mind as to what I would leave with . I left (again) with M1 5W30 EP at $26 per jug . Valvoline synthetic was more expensive and PPPP 5W30 was decently priced down to $23 but I found it a tad too thin and had Hyundai 2.4L DI oil consumption issues with it . As long as I can get the M1 EP oil for $26 I’ll use it for my vehicles at a reasonable OCI .
We can all visualize what that is....It was sort of a hint at a joke.

I didn’t mean always buy the most expensive oil… I meant buy the best oil for the application regardless of the cost of that oil. For Granny that may be the ST, and that’s cool. I agree there is a market for oils that merely “meet the specs” because there are drivers who are at/below average use patterns and need just enough.Agree, but at the same time, if Grandma drives 3-5K a year in her 2017 Toyota Camry and I use Super-tech synthetics at $18 versus Mobil 1 EP at $30, I don’t think I’ll have to have her engine rebuilt for choosing the cheaper oil. Assuming once a year oil change of course.
Now, if she was driving 20K a year and I was only doing it once a year, then absolutely get the EP.
At the same time, is the extra $12 a year a big deal? No, but it’s a sandwich at Jimmy John’s after her oil change!![]()
Was just discussing this yesterday with my best friend. I personally dont like shopping in Walmart but --- to save money in this day and age with the "same exact product" is big. What I don’t understand is how folks buy their oils from auto parts stores with the super high prices while having a Walmart next to it where they can get the same exact oil for much cheaper. Just blows my mind.
There's at least three PCMO Mobil-1s and three Valvoline Synthetics.M1 and Valvoline Synthetic were the exact same price here
Confusing folks is "beneath the radar" marketingThere's at least three PCMO Mobil-1s and three Valvoline Synthetics.
Which ones are you price comparing?
One guy on another forum bought a gallon jug of Valvoline Maxlife ATF for $45 at a parts storeWhat I don’t understand is how folks buy their oils from auto parts stores with the super high prices while having a Walmart next to it where they can get the same exact oil for much cheaper. On the surface , using Supertech synthetic 5W30 at $18 would be a good idea . However , having a GDI engine means long term it’s better to use a oil with less VII’s as well as a lower NOACK - I’d venture to say that M1 5W30 EP is better than Super Tech in those two areas . As for a lower cost synthetic oil for $21 , I could probably use Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30 and be OK with lower VII levels and lower NOACK for a max 5K Mile / 6 month OCI . M1 5W30 EP is quiet in this Hyundai engine and oil loss has been low . Valvoline Advanced 5W30 has been decent but since new owners took over Valvoline - it remains one of the more expensive WM oils at $28 per jug . That leaves me with M1 or QS as preferred oils (not a fan of Castrol and PPPP 5W30 being thinner ).
Must be some guys here simply cringing with this notion, personally I love it!Over even a super-short OCI of just 5000 miles

I agree....but it's fun to find good deals on anything including oils.....Being an oil tight wad is a false economy for the average DIY situation. Searching out the best cheapest oil on sale, rebate, clearance or whatever is hobby not a long term financial plan. Nothing wrong with looking for deals (I do it too) but some folks act like it is hidden key to unlocking untold wealth.
