I went to WM today with an open mind as to what I would leave with . I left (again) with M1 5W30 EP at $26 per jug . Valvoline synthetic was more expensive and PPPP 5W30 was decently priced down to $23 but I found it a tad too thin and had Hyundai 2.4L DI oil consumption issues with it . As long as I can get the M1 EP oil for $26 I’ll use it for my vehicles at a reasonable OCI .

I have used a fair bit of M1EP, all of it bought on rebate over the years. No rebate this year. Still hopeful but not looking good.

If your not running long OCI I don't think there is a specific brand that is substantially better. However some brands do seem to do strange things to specific engines - they consume more or make them louder, etc. My Nissans rattled a lot with 5W-30 Edge Titanium, but worked fine on Magnatec from the same company? Also work fine on 5W-40 Edge Euro that is in there now. Strange?

Either go looking for deals and stock up, or if you find an oil that works, I would just stick with it.

Supertech for $18. What more do you need?

buy the best oil u can afford for your ride, remember, how much a rebuilt engine would be plus installtion ,,,yep, oil is cheap imho..
Exactly…. Over even a super-short OCI of just 5000 miles, the average car is going to use 200 gallons of gas, at the national average comes out to about $750?

And yet people lose their minds to spend $70 on oil that could triple their OCI (so literally, a TON of money lol… $750 x 3 = 2250) and not have to worry about protection.

Even if all you’re buying is shelf-stock from WM, the top tier of any manufacturer is literally the cheapest part of operating your vehicle. And even if you splurge on the brand that many on the board think is overkill, and just run a nice easy 10k OCI like @Astro14 did on his S600, his cost was about $10/1k miles, mainly because of its voluminous 11qt oil capacity.

My truck’s 16k OCI worked out to about $4.38/1k miles on that brand; when I used Ravenol DXG my cost was $14.46/1k for comparison. I’ll say it again: no matter what the actual price tag is, the right oil is the cheapest thing you’ll ever put into your car. Choose wisely.

My son decided on his own to buy the EP Mobile 1 at Walmart last Tuesday and we changed his oil and filter on his 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It only has 40,000 miles and has the original tires on it.

Agree, but at the same time, if Grandma drives 3-5K a year in her 2017 Toyota Camry and I use Super-tech synthetics at $18 versus Mobil 1 EP at $30, I don’t think I’ll have to have her engine rebuilt for choosing the cheaper oil. Assuming once a year oil change of course.

Now, if she was driving 20K a year and I was only doing it once a year, then absolutely get the EP.

At the same time, is the extra $12 a year a big deal? No, but it’s a sandwich at Jimmy John’s after her oil change! :)
