Walmart locking up batteries?

Depends on the area. Some companies have a standing order to not confront shoplifters going out the door. Logic is safety of the employees. When it gets to be too much, the stores either lock stuff behind cages or close the store in the bad area.
Grocery chains were accused of racism because they closed high theft stores in Washington DC.

Wow, this is all kinda bizarre to me. The Wal-Mart I go to nothing is locked up.

Although I was there Sunday and the lady at the entrance/exit was pretty aggressive in seeing my receipt even though I went through a regular staffed line :ROFLMAO:

The one near me has a pretty decent selection of rifles and shotguns along with the ammo for them . No handguns or ammo .
It's really location specific...I forgot to check when I was in Anchorage last week, but the Walmart there carried handguns long after all their stores in the lower 48 had stopped. Some more urban stores don't carry guns or ammo at all.

Edit, they stopped in 2019 in Alaska

This locking up stuff for sale is getting really weird. A few months ago I went to our local CVS for some deodorant, and it was locked up behind a glass cabinet. Maybe between paying $1200 a month for cars, and $1,000 for phones, people have to steal the lesser things in life to get by.,,
Who pays $1000 a month for phones?

A lot of shoplifting is smaller stuff that goes in a pocket of purse easily. Hence, lock up the deoderant, bottles of cologne, and fingernail polish.

They don't even hide the items they shoplift anymore because they know nobody will
do anything about it. I watched a guy walk right out the door in a hat and sunglasses with his arms full of all kinds of stuff. One of the items was a chainsaw. All the workers just watched. He wasn't running or anything

Next time you are in or near a big city, check out the WalMart.
I was specifically referring to this WalMart:
https://www.walmart.com/store/3720-arbutus-md

Arbutus Supercenter

Walmart Supercenter #3720
3601 Washington Blvd, Arbutus, MD 21227

Which is in Baltimore County just over the City County line.

This is because a lot of loss involves the cashier failing to scan something, either by accident or partnering in crime with the customer. Store employees are participants in more than half of retail theft. If you have a large or expensive item in your basket they will want to check it.

I was in a Goldsboro NC Walmart and they had the batteries locked in the shelf. I don't think they do in DE but it's been awhile since I looked. Goldsboro is a poor area unless in USAF.

I wonder the reason? Kind of big to stuff in your jacket to shoplift. Kind of heavy also. They are $100 but not $1000 like a big screen TV. Heavy and people dropping them getting hurt? People testing them incorrectly and getting hurt. Battery acid is dangerous if you do something dumb? Walmart wants you to take the first one not look for newest mfg date?
The CVS pharmacy near me locks up virtually everything including crackers soup cookies etc. They should rethink how they do business and concentrate almost exclusively on pharmacy.
