So the part number for the Frams (Endurance and Ultra) for a 03 Legacy were 3593A. Now the part number is 9688. These 9688’s are shorter and wider than the Subaru OEM filters. I don’t know if they are shorter and wider than the Frams 3593A. But being wider than the OEM’s Will there be a problem with fit?

I have no idea. I would find it wierd if they made a filter for that application that didn’t fit though!
Walmart’s little computer box in the oil filter isle lists the Fram 3593A for my 03 Legacy. The paper catalog lists the 9688 filters. When I looked it up online both at the Fram website and the Walmart website also list the 9688. I guess I’ll have to call Fram and see why the change.
Fram only shows the Titanium in the 3593A model on their website - so looks like it's pretty much discontinued. The 9688 is shown in all the different Fram models.
I’m guessing they’re all the same size but the 9688 is sure wider and shorter than the OEM Subaru filters.
If Fram shows it as fitting your engine, then it probably fits.
