Wagon superiority thread

My latest wagon is a 2005 Honda Airwave - the station wagon version of the Honda Fit/Jazz/City/Aria.

The first Gen Honda Odyssey got my respect. even just with the I4.

i had a 97 legacy wagon 2.2L 5spd which was a little warhorse with minor drivetrain and suspension mods. It was not overpowered by any means but the stick compensated well. In city traffic I drove it like the throttle was a toggle switch. When we sold it around 110,000 hard-earned miles including airborne daily for 2 years, it was still new-car tight, with a only little oil consumption. it was a great vehicle.

Here is our '11 JSW TDI when we picked it up 4/28/2019. Just road tripped it Atlanta->Tybee Island->Savannah->Atlanta. 41.2 MPG on the way down cruising at 78-79 MPH to entire way then 37.1 MPG on return cruising closer to 81-82 MPH. Fold the rear seats down and this thing is absolutely cavernous. Brought home a dishwasher and electric range (separate trips of course) and there was still tons of room to spare.

She is getting a little tired with age though and is going to need engine and trans mounts and a suspension refresh soon. Still under dieselgate warranty for ~2.5 more years though so pretty much the entire fuel system, long block, and emissions equip is covered. CEL comes on its pretty much going to be covered by VW with no deductible.

Going to have to evaluate its fate once the dieselgate warranty is up as I don't want to be holding that bag once that CEL pops on after the warranty.

The Outback, as much as people want to *****, is a wagon for the reason that is is 100% based on the Legacy sedan, a hallmark of wagon-ness....must be based on another car (tpyically a sedan) in the lineup. And here, the sheet metal is exactly the same. The lift/cladding doesn't take away from that.

In the process of acquiring a fourth Volvo wagon. Will post pictures when I’ve got them.

Wagons rock.

If the golf alltrack was still being sold in the US I'd probably have bought one of those instead of the Taos. I'm still tempted to pick up an older Volvo XC70 or V70 once prices hopefully come back down, preferably one with the 2.5T, those things seem bulletproof and very practical. And can tow a surprisingly heavy trailer.

While not as fun to drive as the Golf R it replaced, it just makes more sense for 99% of the driving I do. That, coupled with the insane profit I made on a 2 year old Golf R, and I couldn't resist the swap.

It's a really nice vehicle; comfortable, quiet, handles better than you'd think, and of course, Volvo seats...
