VW ID.4 Nice, Plenty Available around here as of May 2023

The ID.4 is good. I ordered one. After 8 months of waiting I ordered a Model 3 instead and had it in 7 weeks. If it wasn't for the lack of communication from VW and people with half the wait getting close their deals and receive cars I had enough waiting.

We needed to replace a car and after 8 months we had no idea when we'd get a car and couldn't get an answer to narrow it down. It could be called impatient, but what it became was impractical.
Well, I certainly can’t disagree with your actions. When I’m purchasing a product from somebody, they better be on the ball or goodbye to them.
Good for you and I’m sure you’re thrilled with your decision.
If there’s anything more annoying, it’s a company trying to sell you a product and can’t pinpoint with precision a delivery time.
That just says something about the company

VW will improve over time, I'm sure of it. They're just in a bit over their heads on EVs yet. The ID.4 did fit the bill at the time because as a daily for my wife she was used to crossovers, but didn't like how the Model Y looked. Now driving a Model 3 I think she realized why she always drove sedans before that and I think it would be hard to put her back in a crossover, though she was willing to give VW another chance with the ID.Buzz. Now with the numbers being official of only a 260 mile range she decided against that. Who knows how long that wait would be this time, but we would be able to wait it out since it wouldn't be replacing either car.

I want VW to figure it out because I want a fast EV Golf with real range. The e-Golf lacked in both power and range.

yes, I just noticed another advertisement today, the ID.4 seems to be in stock on regular intervals here near the Myrtle Beach area.
More or less the dealer seems to get delivery of a few at a time on a regular basis though now of course I guess because of demand it’s the more expensive versions with a larger battery.

They're definitely around now. My local dealer who we ordered our car to be delivered to now have 3 ID.4s. It's unfortunate, because if they were available at the time we'd have one now and would have never even considered Tesla. I would say though if she did take interest in having one now and I could just take the Tesla as my daily, I would still get one. I just don't think she has any interest in it. Like I said before she was interested in the ID.Buzz but the top model has lower range than our base Model 3 and she wasn't pleased with that.

Dont forget if you dont make 80k+ you arent supposed to buy an electric car.
or else why is the tax credit the way it is?

Its quite odd who thought it was a good idea to make it such that if you earn less you pay more for your electric car?
easy fix let the tax credit carry over.
Agree this is a perverted tax credit.
I’m actually shocked (well not really) the public (out to lunch) and media (which backs a political party)
Anyway, not a peep from anyone as far as I know. Granted I’ve tuned out the media for the most part so maybe I’m wrong and this subject is out there or successfully buried is more like it.

I get the feeling from some owners about being left out in the cold when it comes to updates. Audi has recalled some of the Q4’s with later software but left out the earlier vehicles.

I could never advise someone to buy a car that stores as many fault codes during normal usage due to poor software as the Q4 does. Makes a diagnosis for faults a long drawn out process For owners.

My Jetta attempted at least three OTA updates but (according to the app at least) none were successful. Never had any related problems though.

Again, this is a tax credit that will only credit to your owed taxes. You won't get back more than what you can pay in, as in it won't equal you making money back more than you would have paid.

There seems to be plenty until you want a basic model and then they become hen's teeth. Around here (Houston) it's either Pro S or AWD Pro S. No other trim shows up on a VW site search.

Yes it why I called it perverted.
It’s presented to the public as a $7,500 tax credit in every aspect of advertising and Joe public thinks they are getting that $7,500 when they read the ads.

But if you don’t pay $7500 in taxes that year you are out of luck, you can’t take the rest the following years or years. That’s the perverted part.

I thought that was understood and included what I was replying too.
Bottom line is well over 50% of the population is unable to take full advantage of the rebate.
I would say 75% maybe more can not get the full rebate as in any given year 50/60 % pay no income tax.
So the ones that least can afford a new car or even make ends meet are paying for those who can.

It’s all good, we vote for this stuff. Subsidies to buy expensive cars.

Of course you are correct about the way a tax credit works.
Do the people who pay no income tax buy new cars? Especially expensive cars like EVs? It would seem that few would be able to.

My problem with the EV subsidy, or subsidies in general, is often times people who do not need a break (financially well off) get them while workers who perhaps could use a break connot afford them. IMO, that's perverted.

Not really a fan of the ID4. I looked into them, but they just do nothing well.
Did you drive one or just look at paper specs? Just curious as I am still quite pleased with my pre-owned 2021 now ~10 months and ~7k miles later with it sitting ~21k miles.

Now I will say after driving very recently a 2022 Atlas VR6 4Motion and a 2023 Tiguan FWD the ID.4 is definitely a heavy beast and shows its battery weight. The Atlas and Tiguan feel much lighter on their feet than my piggy ID.4 AWD. That is really the only downside I can mention.

The Atlas feels lighter on its feet? Just wow. 😮😮😮

I had an Atlas loaner for a while and though very nice I thought it should have had a flight deck and an escort group.

It’s just less performance/enthusiast oriented. I ordered one for my wife and we’d have it now if they followed a reasonable ordering schedule for their cars. It wasn’t first come first serve, so we canceled after many months and bought a Tesla instead.

Just paper. Your post proves me right though is my assessment.

Lol - yeah footprint wise the Atlas is pretty much an aircraft carrier compared to ID and Tiguan. Now as far as swinging through a slalom the Atlas feels like it would do better than the ID.4. Wish I could suggest that to one of the car rags - do a compare between the heaviest trim levels of the Atlas, Tiguan and ID.4. Feels like and actual performance may not go hand in hand.

I just saw a video on Facebook for the dealer I bought my GTI from that showed the 3 they had in stock. They're definitely out there for the ones who want them.

I like VW products and yet never owned any. We have an anti large vehicle person in here *LOL* But dont get me wrong, great person to have discussions with.
The Atlas is big, it's as true as a mid to large SUV for those who like trucks. With a towing capacity of 5000 Lbs when it has the factory towing package which puts it at the forefront of a lot of lessor SUVs but maybe not much in this class size. My Traverse has a 5000 lb tow rating too.
Many Americans love big SUVs and Trucks... our roads and size of our country is fantastic for this as much as everything the American way, including the homes we live in..

lol. I know the Atlas isn't small, but I can't imagine it's much different in size than a Traverse, maybe even a hint shorter. It's far from being something like a Tahoe though. I've never driven one, but I've seen them in the dealer when I've been in for service. I could see it feeling like it handled better than the ID.4. I have driven the ID.4 and it did feel heavy and not very sporting. My understanding is that VW spent quite a bit of time and money engineering the Atlas. A vehicle like that is big business in the US.

You can basically put an Atlas in a Traverse.
