I have a question. What's going to be policy on supporting these "illegal" models? Is VW going to have to discontinue parts and support?
That might fall into a different government agency like the Federal Trade Commission which doesn't sit around worrying so much about little animals. EPA doesn't focus on parts and service regulations for vehicles and FTC doesn't focus on air quality standards. And there are many states that don't even do emissions testing on vehicles anyway, so one of these out of conformity VW's could operate just fine till it becomes a rust bucket.
