Stumbled upon this video this morning. (it is a 2 part video, but part 2 contains the results from part 1 as well.) I though some people on here might find it useful. this guy did a VOA on several of the most common UTS fluids. Traveller-Hygard - Kubota-Permatran-Supertech-Rural King-Delvac-Lucas-Amsoil

I know a lot of people are not fans of the traveller UTF, it also seems that everyone praises the Hygard. Well here are the numbers to decide for yourself.

I kinda like the Mobile Delvac at that price point.

Enjoy:

Not surprising that any difference in the oil properties is minimal.

A UTTF oil has certain design goals and there are what, 5 major world wide UTTF additive package suppliers?

With all kinds of new chemistry floating around for various lubricant types, these VOA's are interesting only in the fact they have similar properties.

The so-called 'contaminants,' i.e., the Boron etc., suggest potassium borates which are FM/EP agents and rust inhibitors.

Not alot of money in Tractor hydraulic fluids. It’s a bit of a race to the bottom price wise. Same with all “conventional” hydraulic fluids.

I have Lucas utf in my transfer case because it's the only non-gl5 gl4 rated oil I could find locally. I got the transfer case for $120 from a junkyard, ran gl5 in it for a year/4000 miles just to see if it was a usable transfer case. the gl5 came out with a dark sediment suspended in it that could be brass from damaged synchros or dirt from it being on a shelf at a junkyard for many years, but I didn't want to run gl5 anymore
next time I change it I'll use the correct fluid (gl4 75-90)

transfer case works fine but whines a little in 4low above 15mph
