Vitamin D

And I thought our labs are slow....what is that 12+ business days?!
It might not be the labs that are slow. It’s possible that they sent my doctor the results quickly but that he just hasn’t gotten the chance to look them over. It’s probably not a high priority thing

No lab results tab or drop down? They all use "Epic" based software here.
The thing that I have is called Pocket Health and it doesn’t have any options like that. It was something that my urologist had me sign up for so that he could get access to all of the scans that I had done prior to him being my doctor

I'm not much of a Vitamin supplement kinda guy however about 5 years ago my Doc did blood work and checked my Vitamin D level and it was big time low! She told me to take 4,000 iu D a day.

So now 5 years later I take a 5,000 Iu D3 and K2 pill from Amazon each and every day! and all is GREAT! I tried the "D" liquid under tongue and perhaps it was the brand but the liquid drops made my throat hurt, I have NO issue with D in a pill...

WoW what a difference in my LIFE!
When my "D" was low I found myself overloaded with day by day stuff! My brain was NOT working right!

I don't like using the term "depressed" but was like I was in a hole and could not climb out.

Simple stuff like paying bills, going to the store became overwhelming just the thought of what needed to be done first when I wake in the morning, was so easy to get overloaded with life when my D was low. However, once my D was tested again and was shown to be in normal range I returned to "normal"...

When having normal blood work, why not ask for the "D" level to be checked?
The BEST thing to EVER happen to me, was getting my D up to normal range!

my two cents......I've been taking Vitamin d pills for over 20 years, no I'll affects.
At first it was a low dose, say 500-800 IU . Then later I'd up it to 2,000.
Later on again, 3,000-4000.
For the past year I've been taking 8,000 to 10,000 IU every day. No upset stomach, I feel fine.
And yes, I admit I have NOT done blood tests, just gone by how I felt/feel.
I live in Vancouver Canada, we get a lot of rain in the late Fall thru to April. Some years more drier/more sunshine. Summers are great, dry, warm to hot sunny days.
I had forms of depression when I was a young child thru to age 34....I'm 58 as of April 4th.No depression.
I also use SAD lamp in the mornings if it is cloudy or rainy day. I need to restock my magnesium supps as it's best to take K2/magnesium with vitamin D or there will be issues with calcium buildup....I'm no expert in this, just stuff I read.

I take other vitamins for energy/brain health, such as Vit b6/12, ginseng, other things, drink lots of filtered water, don't drink/don't smoke/no drugs, not even Asprin ...altho I had a Tylenol yesterday for body aches after pressure washing for 5 hours around the home/vehicle, etc

How much magnesium are you taking with it?

Also, what's your vitamin D blood test level? Just curious.
I'm out of magnesium and vitamin LK, need to restock Sunday.
I be honest and tell you I've never had a vitamin d blood test.
I do have a family doc appointment on the 23rd/April....maybe I ask her for that test.///unless it is not covered , I'm not gonna pay for it if its like $100

If you can get your doctor when the order is entered, to state that the test is needed to treat a medical condition related to vitamin D , your insurance should cover it all or a good portion of the cost where you just have a co-pay.. There will be a medical code tied to the order.

I had to pay $54 Canadian ($39 US) for my Vitamin D blood test

About the same here. I think after coupon mine have been about $40

Even if over $50, seems worth it vs. guessing.
ahhhhh ok thanks....I will at least ask my family doc , maybe she ''order it'' and I pay nothing thru the BC medical plan.
But I doubt it, everything over here is pay thru the nose.
if you live in British Columbia, you will be familiar with the term B.C.= Bring Cash.

Yes, she pretty smart doc and im sure if i have a related medical condition she can get me the D test.
But im very healthy 58 year old guy, only pre diabetes, fairly low.
No other health issues, not on any prescribed drugs.
Im just going for an intermitten cough and im hoping i get sent for a chest Xray.
I have two chain smoking brothers, i do my best to avoid them when they are smoking, im wondering if i have some second hand smoke health issue .
Could be nothing.
My cousin's husband had a work related shoulder injury 4 years ago.
He went to his doc, they did test, xrays...they found Cancer.
Still has it, in remission.
Sometimes things are found inadvertently, so i go see my doc, not in fear, just to check out the source of my cough.
I might be told to go buy a pack of cough drops and life goes on. 😂

That’s why you should never ignore your body if it’s telling you that something is off. They found the cancer on my right kidney when they did a CT scan in the ER after I went in with mild chest pains. I’m so glad that I didn’t ignore those chest pains. Going into the ER that night literally saved my life.

If you tell the doc what you are worried about based on your symptoms and family history, she'll probably order you one. Tell her you were exposed to a lot of second hand smoke for much of your life and you've had this cough for a long time.

I wouldn't consider pre diabetis a small issue, either. Even moderately elevated blood sugar causes aill kinds of health concerns like arterial hardening and plaque, kidney disease, nerve damage, eye diseases, and high levels of systemic inflammation.

I was diagnosed as pre diabetic and have had massive turn around in my health after losing weight and changing my diet.

Thanks my friend, i appreciate your good advice and will take it up with the doc at my next visit.
I too need to lose weight, not that im huge, the belly fat from too much late night eating. I actually dont eat that much, but its unwise and unhealthy to eat late at night, hence my pre diabetese.

I do daily, nightly walks and i do control myself, but i need to do better and lose the belly fat, bring down that blood sugar and maybe cut out processed meats, cheese. Or greatly reduce it.
I just turned 58 and feel pretty good, i move around like a guy age 35-40, but one never knows what lurks below the skin surface .
My mother about to be 90, father died 4 years ago at age 92, he had dementia, forms of cancer, open heart surgery and more, last ten years of his life.
Not that im fearful or dwell, i just want to have whatever remaining years i have left healthy and not suffer from ailments and disease.
Id like to be that old dude who you see jogging at age 80 or dancing salsa . Or at least Keith Richards, smoke rat poison and go on a concert tour for 9 months. 😁
