Vitamin D

Thanks my friend, i appreciate your good advice and will take it up with the doc at my next visit.
I too need to lose weight, not that im huge, the belly fat from too much late night eating. I actually dont eat that much, but its unwise and unhealthy to eat late at night, hence my pre diabetese.

I do daily, nightly walks and i do control myself, but i need to do better and lose the belly fat, bring down that blood sugar and maybe cut out processed meats, cheese. Or greatly reduce it.
I just turned 58 and feel pretty good, i move around like a guy age 35-40, but one never knows what lurks below the skin surface .
My mother about to be 90, father died 4 years ago at age 92, he had dementia, forms of cancer, open heart surgery and more, last ten years of his life.
Not that im fearful or dwell, i just want to have whatever remaining years i have left healthy and not suffer from ailments and disease.
Id like to be that old dude who you see jogging at age 80 or dancing salsa . Or at least Keith Richards, smoke rat poison and go on a concert tour for 9 months. 😁
They just announced their next concert tour... Steel Wheelchairs.

The best thing I did for my diet was buying a blood glucose tester and using it a lot to help me figure out how many carbs (not many) that I could eat and keep my blood sugar down. I actually eat plenty of cheese and meat, but not processed meats. High protein makes you feel full on less calories, too.

I was gifted a blood glucose monitor by my aunt about two years ago, i do use it . Im anywhere frim 6.4 to 7.1 My uncle had diabetes before he died 3 years ago, but from other illnesses.
My third eldest brother by 7 more years was nagged by my aunt to buy one, which he did. Sits unopened for two years, while he gorges on take out food everyday, 6-10 cans of Coke, chocolates, sweets, over indulges in food, smokes, had a heart attack 8 years ago, takes massive amount of pills for depression and who knows what else.
Ticking time bomb, says Whoooo Caresssss!? whenwe try to help. Oh well.
One less moron.
[ IF you knew youd understand why i sound so callous. Perpetual selfish disturbed manchild, reap what you sow. 😏

I'm out of magnesium and vitamin LK, need to restock Sunday.
I be honest and tell you I've never had a vitamin d blood test.
I do have a family doc appointment on the 23rd/April....maybe I ask her for that test.///unless it is not covered , I'm not gonna pay for it if its like $100
Vit D test cost
ownyourlabs.com = $45
Walinlabs.com =$59
Health lans.com = $59
Labcorp.com = ??

Why don't you guys get Vitamin D the natural way by exposing yourselves to sunlight?

Because for half the year in CONUS (Oct-March) you aren't getting any significant D3 due the sun's low angle....
not even in South Florida or South Texas.

Sun screen will significantly reduce your Vit D uptake. I get 30-45 min of all around sun, and then put on the sun screen
on legs, arms, face IF I'll be staying out a much longer period.....like on the golf course. The longer you wait to shower up
that day, the more D3 will be absorbed.

Last time i used sun screen was decades ago.
It can be such a hit and miss product, with some studies showing either too much or too little protection, regardless of the rating on the bottle
And some people stayed out longer in the hot sun, basically cooking their skin thinking they were supremely protected from sun harm.

I just cover up or limit my skin exposure.

I don’t use sunscreen very often myself. Once I’ve built up my summer tan I can be outside all day long and not get burned.
Same here.
But i have yet to cross the Sahara by foot, so who knows?
What was that stupid movie with Dustin Hoffman where he and a buddy walk across the dessert?

Desert , dessert...i always screw that up. 😂

I do
I get a lot of sunlight exposure. All my exercise, lawncare, gardening is outdoors. I never use sunscreen. I never get sunburned.
In fact my vit D level got too high, 113 ng/mL, and I have reduced my supplementation to one 50k IU capsule ONCE/wk instead of TWICE/wk

my research indicates: a healthy Vit D level is 40-100 ng/mL
no or low Vit D ng/mL level = no or low immune system
sunlight exposure = > Vit D uptake
a healthy metabolism = > Vit D uptake from diet, supplements, etc
But, too much Vit D = >100 ng/mL = unhealthy
Your results may vary.
