Good evening folks from balmy 35 degree Pittsburgh PA area. So I nabbed 10 quarts of VR1 SAE 50 for $1 quart. What should I use this oil in? Thinking possibly mixing half quart in with some Durablend 5w20 to slowly use it up. Maybe use it in the push mower that I fixed

Thanks in advance

Id use some in an oil can for hinges and stuff.

Blending? Maybe.

Lawn mower and air cooled ope might work.

When I used to build engines and I would come across someone that had one that was on its last leg, I would suggest Kendall Nitro 70 in it with a HV oil pump installed to give it a few more lives. That Nitro 70 is some thick oil!

. That and some ancient VR1 synthetic SAE 60

He has some Nitro 70? You can put that in ANY engine that uses/burns oil and it will liven it up for awhile until you can rebuild it. I'm not familiar with the VR1 60.

Yeah, he used to have a a or b/gas 55' Chevy post he drag raced often. The VR1 is probably early-mid 2000's

My dad had a 55 Chevy Nomad gasser when I was 5 years old. I still remember that engine making my body tremble!

It would certainly be a very good summer choice for a garden tractor or the like. Do any of the many you help out down there have something like that? That's a nice price point!

Besides, a monograde is a great fit for OPE in the summer. Wait, I can't believe I said that. Maybe someone hacked my account.

Hey Car51,
It's a balmy 35 degrees C here in Australia too. I've been swimming all morning with my son.

That VR1 SAE 50 is a nice drop at a good price point. It's a high zinc mineral, so I would mix it with a Valvoline SynPower 0W20 full synthetic, with ILSAC levels of zinc. This would give you something like a Valvoline 10W30 semi-synthetic with medium levels of zinc. Sort of like a pumped up DuraBlend.

Personaly I would aim for a KV100 of about 11.0 to 11.5 cSt. More than an ILSAC 30 grade, but less than a A3/B4 30 grade (~ 12 cSt). Plus more zinc than a ILSAC oil, but less than a HDEO oil.

I would sooo be into that.

Except that it would no longer be a 5w- oil.

Yeah, I just thought of that after seeing your answer. What would it be, possibly?
