Valvoline Restore & Protect

Pictures?
The mechanic took the picture, I didn't even spoke to him regarding me being concerned how the engine looks on the inside. Its him being shocked of how clean it was after 21 years of me owning it its what compelled him to take the picture and showed it to me, I don't have the picture

Ah gotcha. Would have been cool to see. Thanks anyway!

The wildest thing about the VRP is how it has radically transformed the “feel” of the engine in terms of throttle response and seat of the pants power. It’s like the van is 12 years younger already.

I had a similar experience with my Yaris after switching to HPL, I even posted about it and got made fun of. But it just felt happier. I didnt get the same experience when my other cars got switched to HPL but my Yaris sure felt different.

I have to take the truck back again on a day off from work after I order the antifreeze online, I will ask him then if he still has the picture but that might happen in a week or a month or even 3 months from now. If I take it soon I wont forget and I'll ask him to send me the picture, I'm sure he wont have it deleted by then.

Ha...When I secretly topped up my friend's 4.6l Ford (down 3 of 6 qt. -reported here more than once) he said, "Woah! something's changed with the throttle response!", as we resumed a trip.

If the oil control rings can't properly scrap the excess oil off the cylinder then that oil can get into the combustion chamber and get burned (see figure blow). So yes, in an extreme case you'd probably see oil smoke (typically blue-ish) coming out the exhaust pipe. But I've seen engines burn a decent amount of oil without really having obvious burned oil smoke out the exhaust pipe.

Yeah, my buddy's Saturn, which drank oil, didn't smoke at all. It often takes a LOT of oil before you end up with the "mosquito fogger".

Interestingly enough, what are the symptoms of stuck piston rings? loss of power? engine sound as if working harder than usual? burning oil noticed trough the smoky tail pipe? I have none of those symptoms, maybe you can pitch in other typical symptoms for stuck piston rings?
The Saturn S Series 1.9 engines are notorious stuck oil rings mainly due to an ineffective oil drain back system in the piston. The car will run like a top though, but the engine will usually use oil, sometimes up to a quart per 300 miles....so many of these engines run out of oil and get ruined because there are no other symptoms to alert the driver that something is wrong.
The only way to really fix this issue is an engine tear down and either install updated pistons with oil drain holes or drill the pistons behind the oil control rings.
Would love to see Valvoline R&P used on one of these oil burners to see how much it would help!

I was at the Toyota dealer today getting an oil change. I brought up that I was interested in switching to Valvoline R&P on my next oil change. Funny thing the service writer said that he's been thinking about bringing it into the dealership for their older vehicles. He let me know to remind him when I'm due for my next oil change, so he'll make sure they have it in for me.

Service writers do NOT make those decisions. Oil costs money this is something he or she could mention but ultimately would be up to the GM to green light such a proposal and i highly doubt that's gonna happen.

It could have been a higher-up working as a service writer during that particular morning or afternoon. Absenteeism is terrible these days.

We have white collars and certified mechanics sometimes hauling wheelchair kids back and forth to school on the big yellow buses.
Not uncommon to have 36 drivers and assistants call in sick any particular day, where 180 exist on the payroll.

Because today is the day after the Superbowl, so many school-bus employees that hit on the football squares and/or were wearing huge hangovers from all the Superbowl parties, makes me recall years that created 45 call-offs for post-Superbowl Monday. Sooner or later, the NFL may try playing this game on a Saturday instead of a Sunday.

A smart dealership will have Valvoline VRP in stock. It is the hottest new major producer / bottler motor oil to hit the market in decades

This is a PR firm that companies hire, per Kantar website. So if you wanted to know who the best dad in your house was, you could hire them and they would ask your kids and I bet if the results were good, you too might be dad of the year. And if you don't like the results, just don't publish the press release.
Regardless, Valvoline Restore & Protect was named 2025 Product of the Year USA award winner in the Car Care category.

Doing VRP 5w-30 on my new F150 5.0. Changed the factory oil at 877 miles last week. This truck is my primary daily driver. I am planning to do 6 month or 5K OCI which ever comes first.
While VRP is great I think you might be better served at the moment with the Valvoline Extended Protection or EP high mileage (better base oil) with the same OCI.
