Valvoline Restore & Protect

Even though I bought a jug of VRP 0w20 a few months ago, I finally got around to putting it in my Civic today (didn't want to cut the previous interval too short) My plan at this point is to run at least 3 intervals, 6000 miles on the first one and then maybe 8k on the second and back up to my usual 9-10k for the third run. After that I'm still undecided what the plan will be (who knows, maybe I'll just stick with VRP for a while)
I’m kinda in the same boat. I was going to run VRP next in the Toyota but I think I’ll just use up the two jugs of PP I have on hand first. Then I might stick with the VRP for a while and see where it goes. Not sure yet.

Here’s my update after just 588 miles. A black sludge-like smudge appears to have faded away!

For one thing - does not appear to be going away as some here predicted
I recall at least one person here saying that they thought it would be in the clearance section of Walmart really fast. I never thought that myself. I think they have a winner on their hands, a lot of people have reported that it’s hard to find in stock so I think Valvoline themselves didn’t even expect it to sell as well as it has so far.

I never did either bcs those that failed priced them too high for the box store crowds …
(some were high PAO, cost more to formulate)

I think Mobil 1s failed “annual protection” sold for $49 at first didn’t it? That would definitely scare people away even though it was supposed to be a really well built oil.

Yes, couple drops - still not selling - once on clearance - I gathered 23 jugs of the 70% PAO and only ran out a year ago.

I don't think a 2022/23 Honda with 5k PUP OCI will have anything of note to clean at all.
Yeah the car is only at 27k miles and I used M1 0w-20 for the first 25k and switched to M1 EP 5w-30. Maybe less of a need to restore but more to protect, but then again I don’t have any hesitation using M1.

Might shorten the OCI a bit since winter is coming

Hi everyone, first post here so bear with me …

Much has been said about the YouTube video by LSJr. on his field trip to the Valvoline test lab and how Valvoline were concerned about the possibility of VRP going to good a job too quickly and causing the filter to become clogged.

The FAQ for VRP now says deposits are dissolved and held in suspension until the oil is drained and I quote -

There is no impact to the performance or longevity of the oil filter.”

https://www.valvolineglobal.com/en/restore-and-protect/

I’d say that changes things.

What say you?

Yeah, unfortunately people can't read. It poses no threat to the oil filter.

Nice to see you took the time to actually read what they say. (y)

Earlier this year I was picking up(will call) clearance Valvoline @ AZ and they didn't have it so manager substituted 2 jugs of VRP 5W-30
instead 🤪

Still deciding which one of my cars in my sig I'm gonna run it in?? :sneaky::LOL:
