Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w-30 (Gonna Take a Chance)

Ok Valvoline gets there base oil from Exxon Mobil and then gets the additive package, from Afton Chemical, what makes them different, from Mobil 1 or Castrol accept they already have their own base oils.. they still have to go to a chemical company for their own blend correct?
An example: Infineum, one of the major additive producers, is a joint-venture between ExxonMobil and Shell. The majors have a higher level of resources at their disposal for offering innovative and efficient add packs, and also drive the innovation in base oils (ExxonMobil known for being PAO specialists, Shell known for their GTL for instance).

A blender like Valvoline offers nowhere near the innovation that the majors do. If Valvoline's pricing was significantly cheaper than say Mobil 1, then that would make sense. But seeing as how Valvoline prices themselves basically in lock-step with Mobil 1 (at times it's been higher), it makes no sense to spend the same amount of money on Valvoline for what is essentially the same product as what the generic blenders without large advertising budgets are offering.

I'll add that I've been an on and off Valvoline user for years. I have Valvoline in my stash right now. But the notion that they are very advanced because their logos are on two cars on the F1 grid is misguided.

Most of the of the brands rely on the additive companies to do the majority of the testing and formula development. Valvoline operates in the quick lube retail market. They're not trying to go after the HPL's/Amsoil SS etc. It's not their market. If they can run all engine tests in-house, have chemists on their staff and work with additive companies like they all do I don't why they can't innovate LOL.

In my current vehicle I've been using Mobil 1 Advanced full synthetic 5W20 on my next oil change, I will probably use, Mobil 1 Extended Protection 5W30 I only do about 6,000 mi oil changes anyway. I used to be a manager for several Valvoline locations before I became disabled. At that time all I used was Valvoline products.

The Saudis own stakes in a lot of US companies. Amazon, Alphabet, Zoom, Costco, Microsoft, Chase, Home Depot…

Whether this as good or bad is nuanced. It may grant more influence of the Saudis over US company policies, but it also creates more onshore assets the US could freeze in the event it might need to.

20 years ago a Houston DJ remarked that Japan was trying to buy up all the property - his sidekick says: Calm down - the Saudi’s won’t sell any 😵‍💫

I mean, I’m sure oil is fine. Brand new engine so nothing to ”restore.” No doubt it will protect, but this stuff is twice as much as your regular oils out there, so not sure if we know how it will protect better? Just not seeing what extra money is used for here.

Don't get me wrong I have over 100,000 miles, but my oils been changed every 5,000 miles, and $40 for 5 quarts.. think I'll stick with Mobil One for $30..

Won’t know the price until Walmart has it - going to post the sign again bcs I did not pay $40 for just a jug of oil or 5 singles (bundle w/ XL filter)

Oh okay it was part of their DIY oil change deal.. it's probably going to run the same price, as extended.
I don’t have long term plans for the oil for the same reason you posted - my engine is at 90k with about 70% of that on Mobil 1 …
After the EC30 - will do a normal change and this stuff later …
Just want to keep GDI pistons clean …

Although I’m a Valvoline fan, this seems like BS. If a motor oil can clean pistons as they’ve shown in the advertisement, that engine is getting a tremendous amount of oil past the piston rings. If someone does use it, keep a close eye on your oil level. I’ll just keep using the plain Valvoline Advanced. This has my radar up. When kooky things start happening in an oil company they might be grasping at straws to find a profit.
Almost daily I see the bull something acronym …
(you don’t actually know that BTW) …
I recently got a warning for using that …

That makes sense, my engine was apart last year I have a Ford 3.5 doing the water pump timing chains tensioners and oil pump. It was also scoped at the same time, it was very clean. I purchased it at 80,000 MI, lady I bought it off of, always serviced it at the dealer every 5k using synthetic blend, then I started using synthetic and it has 120K now.

There seems to be a mission

I mean it's hard to completely avoid doing business with the Saudis because you never know what the sort of the crude is in the tank at a random gas station. But in the case of an off the shelf motor oil, it's easy.

I mean, never say never, but it's hard to imagine buying Valvoline products with this happening. We have a choice as a consumer.

Being a shareholder is different from outright ownership. In a free market you can't stop folks from buying shares on a public stock exchange.

And they continue to operate in the USA - better than imports as far as good jobs go …
