I don't sell Amsoil and I think it's the best by far. (My application anyways.)

No one asked you.

Valvoline is a really good oil IMO. They have improved and it's clear by some of the spec's they picked up.

Fine then, be that way!

My Yaris doesnt like Valvoline Synpower. I like Motul 8100 in this app, but M1 AFE is going in next, 5qts for 12 bucks. Mobil had to give it away and I took it!

Wow...that's...let's see...that's 16 time better than Mobil 1?

And how then would Mobil use the results of the law suit for their marketing?

I'm sure that Castrol AND Valvoline would be willing to take that risk. Esp in todays environment.

Amazing how strong the koolaid is around here for some members...

Real world results including UOA's that show high iron ppm per mile for M1 5W30. The high iron numbers in 100's of M1 UOA's mean nothing of course.

And, yes I think amsoil makes some excellent products.

You posted this in another recent thread, and I was hella curious why. I think you mentioned that others on YarisWorld had similar experiences. Would you mind elaborating a bit? I kinda like Synpower in my 4cyl engines.

Doug Hilliary has answered that question numerous times. Just because the numbers are high doesn't mean excess wear or premature failure.

I suggest you PM him for the story before this turns into another M1 bashing thread.

Doug has torn down numerous engines with long OCI's using nothing but M1 and has shown the engines to be in perfect tolerances, including cylinder walls where the Iron is supposedly coming from.

The iron thing has my curiosity going as well. I notice synthetic oils (not only M1) always show more iron levels than dinos on UOA`s. Why is that?

That's right. All the sludge that stays in the motor holds onto the metals that the engine is spewing since conventional oils wear more than syn. (syn has less friction)

And then the motors that run conventional oil don't last as long because of all the sludge in there.

Hopefully I've got it right.

ExxonMobil probably cannot sue anyone for the following reasons:

1. Valvoline is small company (relative to XOM) and does not produce or sell any crude oil (at obscene prices), nor does it sell gasoline (more obscene prices). Valvoline, just like the rest of us, has to buy its ingredients from big oil to make its motor oil and eek out a meager living. Things are so bad for Valvoline, that its parent company (Ashland) is trying to sell the company (violins will be playing in the courtroom).

2. XOM is big bad company that ruined Alaska with the Valdez oil spill, and is one of the most hated companies in the World (just slightly behind Madoff Investment Securities LLC).

3. Any defendant has the right to a jury trial, where 5 of out every 10 potential jurors hates big oil, and hates XOM in particular.

M1 5W30 has significantly higher camshaft wear measurements in SQIV tests than similar QS, Valvoline and Castrol full synthetic products.

By coincidence M1 5W30 also typically has higher than normal iron numbers in UOA's posted here.

But many members here back M1 and dismiss the UOA results because they can't be proven to correlate with wear. Others argue that engines don't need to last 1,000,000 miles and M1 wear is acceptable.

Doug has a lot of experience but long distance highway diesel trucks in austrialia don't have a lot in common with the average stop and go gasoline engine in NA.

M1 has some fine oils but why would I pay top dollar for an oil that provides adequate performance. Now if i could get M1 on sale and apply the $10 rebate folks in the USA can get I would buy some M1 0W40 tomorrow.

IF Mobil HAD a case, they SUE them to the end of the world.

Just for Marketing purposes.

99% of the public knows nothing about the Valvoline claims against Mobil 1 and at my Walmart M1 is still flying off the shelves. If XOM sues them, it is just free advertising for Valvoline.
