What is the difference between this oil and their Duroblend? From reading the back it seems that it contains seal conditioners and extra detergents. I seen some today that had SM ratings, so why do they only recommend it for cars with over 75,000 miles? Wouldnt it be OK for all cars regardless of milelage? Ive seen this oil for good prices and passed it up because I thought it was a gimmic at first and I didnt have any cars with high mileage, now Iam sorry I did. Hows it compare with Castrol HM, same special additives? Thanks, I know this stuff has a cult following and alot of stashers, I just wanted to know more about this oil.

If you do a search on this oil you'll find tons of info.
It's designed around the needs of an older engine. However, Their information says that it's perfectly fine for new engines too.

I like it. Like I said.... do a search and you'll come up with great info.

I use it in my mom's '03 Malibu (with 55k on it) and it's performed great. 2600 miles into the OCI with a 50/50 combination, it hasn't burned anything, and isn't too dark yet. The engine runs great with it, even as a known piston slapper.

Moly and Zinc. SL formulation.
No longer contains PAO

What? Calling TallPaul! I understood it contained 15-20% PAO?

Perhaps I am wrong.

Maxlife is a thicker durablend with seal conditioners and a little bit stronger additive package. It's the better buy if you don't mind it not being "energy conserving"

This says it is pretty much all Group II and Group III. Not bad considering the PAO formulation was mostly Group I.

Yes Maxlife is SM. The main thing is 300 ppm moly and a more robust formulation than All Climate or Durablend (IMO) because it is not girly-man Energy Conserving.

I still love Maxlife.

Thanks, I have trouble with that search engine, I either get back 0 posts or 1288 posts, where everytime a keyword is mentioned it shows the post. Iam going to try that Max life and see how I like it,if it meets the SM standards, it cant hurt anything.

I just bought up all the stock that WalMart had of the MaxLife 5W-30 Full synthetic (2 five qt jugs and 5 qts). Has the formulation on that been changed also? The two 5 qt jugs looked different from each other, one had the old labeling on it which I assume is probably on old formula. The old label listed that the oil was BMW LL-04 but the new label doesnt say that. Does it still meet that spec?

I have noticed the same thing on the new jugs. Looking at their website still lists the oil as meeting BMW LLO4 but who knows? Sometimes manufacterer's websites are slow to be updated.

Pennzoil is one of the worst, they had GF-3 specs still up on their website for so long, while yet the rest of the information was updated.

Hey guys... I wrote Valvoline about the "PAO" in question.

This was their response:

"There has not been any formula changes in the MaxLife since its existence. The MaxLife Synthetic Blend product is actually the same product as the regular MaxLife. MaxLife has always been a synthetic blended oil, we just now label the product that way. It is the same oil as before. As long as you have used MaxLife, you have used synthetic blended oil. "

I also talked to a Valvoline Tech about both the Full synthetic and also the Blend. He told me that even though the labels have changed, the formulation of it has been the same since its introduction. The only problem I see with this is the oil has went from an SL rating to an SM. If I am understanding that correctly doesnt that mean that there was something in the formulation changed?

Yes the product data sheets showed reduced zinc and phosphorus going to SM. Also, old posts on this site, maybe 2002 indicated blend was with ester, then later changed to PAO, now latest MSDS shows GpII/III and no PAO. What gives?
