I don't typically extend my oil change interval anyways..Valvoline Rxtrnded protection does not promise to extend your OCI , it only promises to provide extra protection during the normal OCI used .

Valvoline never has, pushed extended oil change intervals.. even a long time ago when I used to manage their quick lube facilities..“Extended” means additional time or distance depending upon the use. When talking about oil it could be either or both. “Extra” or something similar would suggest additional or more, not extended.
Unlike some others Valvoline does not put a number on it though.

It's all about the bottom line.. now more than ever I'm sure, one store I managed, we did full service repairs. We take our work vehicles there and even with a full syn change they put a 3k sticker on the windshield. All about profit.
The VIOC and Valvoline are not the same now though.
Under 5K, just about any API approved synthetic will do.For 5K the cheaper one is better. Either will work so why spend more than necessary.
Valvoline showed a tear down video between their EP and regular and I wasn't impressed with the yellow varnish of the EP. Probably fine for a "long enough" engine life ...and most people who don't care much about it.
I'm sure it doesn't count for nothing, that both engines were run to 500k miles. That's not a small number, even in a lab.It was between EP and conventional oil.
I'm mixed on the results with EP. It was certainly yellow, but 10,000 mile drains with a turbo, etc. They were probably easier miles than what most of us do though with idling, short trips, etc. I loved that video though. I wish more manufacturers would do tests like those.
Any API SP synthetic should be good for 5,000 miles, unless you specialize in numerous short trips.Usually it's under 5K
